In my opinion, it is much more difficult to find the right glove online as compared to shopping at a local store. You can simply go to the nearest big box store and try on gloves until you find the size and material you want. Most of them are sold as single or double pairs. However, if you want multiple gloves in a pack then it has been my experience that you will find a better selection and, in many cases, lower prices by shopping online. But, you don't really know if the fit/material are what you want until the gloves arrive, so it is a bit of a gamble. Anyway, I have been looking online for multi-packs of gloves that are suitable for summer yard work and recently purchased this 12 pack of Liberty 4518BL canvas/cotton men's gloves. As with most such style gloves, they have a cartoonish appearance...a large palm with short fingers. I have posted three images of the gloves I received.
These gloves are made with a fairly heavy canvas that still retains pretty good flexibility. I didn't have any problem picking up tools or pulling weeds. Of course, the dexterity is limited by the material and you will have to take them off to manipulate smaller items more easily. The cuffs are made from a thin stretchable knit material. There is no leather palm strip that you find on many gloves of this style. In fact, the palm is a little too big for my taste. I posted an image that shows how much room is left in the palm when I am wearing one. Instead of a palm strip, the glove is reinforced with an inside cotton palm liner. I also posted a picture in which the glove is turned inside out showing the cotton liner. The liner will probably provide some protection from grasping a hot object. (According to the product description, they are designed for hot mill work.) Ironically, it also makes the gloves get hot on a summer day. The material will not protect you from direct punctures such as nails or cuts from blades. You will need leather for that kind of protection. But, they are good protection from short wood splinters and sharp edges, as well as keeping poison ivy off your hands when pulling weeds.
These are very nice gloves for certain applications; however, there are some issues when used for yard work. First off, as mentioned above, they tend to get noticeably hot on hot summer days. But, more importantly, the material is somewhat slick which makes gripping handles such as a metal lawnmower bar or a wooden hoe handle more difficult (and tiring). I gave four stars because they do seem to be a reasonable quality glove; however, for my application, summer yard work, they are a bit hot and the material is too slick for gripping handles. As an addendum, I have found that canvas gloves with PVC dots such as the Kinco 862 offer good gripping performance for yard work.
