Uvex Bionic Face Shield with Clear Polycarbonate Visor and Anti-Fog/Hard Coat

Uvex Bionic Face Shield with Clear Polycarbonate Visor and Anti-Fog/Hard Coat (S8510)

Uvex Bionic Face Shield with Clear Polycarbonate Visor and Anti-Fog/Hard Coat (S8510)

Well... I'm actually LAUGHING at those 1 and 2 star reviews and of those who claim the plastic shield is "misty", or "opaque"... and not clear.

You've got to be kidding me, right?

The lens, has two protective coatings on it. ONE on the inside, and ONE on the outside.
Once you remove them, you'll notice a clear as glass lens. Nothing misty or opaque about it.

Perfect for what I'll use it for (grinding metal), and cheap enough to toss when it's scratched and hard to see out of. Or, I can simply buy a new lens for as little as $5. Love this item!

... just to show, I took pictures and posted them to my review of the lens with both protective covers, with one cover, and no covers. I believe they'll show up in reverse order, but you'll get the idea.

I tried many face shields before this model and I've finally found the winner. It's extremely balanced and comfortable but has successfully protected my face numerous times from dangerous chunks of wood and bark flying off my lathe. The visor is micro-adjustable so you can fit glasses or a respirator underneath - comfortably! Very sturdy build but this shield is light enough that you forget you're wearing it.

Tips:
• Remove the protective film off the visor before using!
• Push the head strap adjustment knob in to adjust.
• Spend a few minutes customizing the fit - helps with comfort and you only have to do it once. With 2,784 possible adjustment positions, I'm sure you can find the perfect fit.

Pros:
• Outstanding optics. Clear field of vision ahead, lower and peripherally
• Strong polycarbonate visor is Ansi rated
• Replaceable visor and sweatband
• Can be adjusted while wearing
• Anti-Fog actually works! (model S8510 only)
• Visor flips up and stays up until you tug it down

Cons:
• So comfortable that you'll forget you're wearing the shield
• The Darth Vader look frightens my dog

I bought this lens to replace a Bionic Shield lens that literally saved my life. I had a kickback on a table saw while cutting 2" thick oak. I had just started wearing the Bionic Shield when cutting on the table saw because it kept sawdust out of my face. Thank God I did that because the 4lb piece of oak hit me right in the mouth. I suffered a split lip but I could have died and at the very least I would have broke my front teeth and probably my jaw. The lens did not break! The force of the blow pushed the entire face shield into my face but the force was greatly reduced. I can't say enough good things about this face shield. I use it 100% of the time while I am turning wood on my lathe. I wear it for hours at a time and it's comfortable and fog free.

I used it as a prop for my sci-fi film

Works as intended

I recently decided to pick up blacksmithing as a hobby. I didn't want to continue living my life making bad decisions and not wearing a mask when messing with an angle grinder and steel. My friend was wearing this shield while cutting through a fire extinguisher last night and I am glad he was, and so was he! While cutting through the cut-off disc starting breaking apart from over-use and one piece hit right below his left eye on the shield. I couldn't imagine it doing too much damage other than a nice cut, but this shield prevented it. No sparks hit him in the face and neither did the shards. As far as the durability it is a flimsy shield unless you tighten it down. Oh, and take the film off of BOTH sides of the mask so you can see. Great buy and I would buy again if I needed to.

So far so good. I haven't had any issues with it fogging up while working in a backyard tool shed with just a fan and an open door for ventilation. I wore goggles underneath and my vision wasn't impaired while cutting and drilling metal. This is a great safety assessory.

I used this for the first time with the week wacker yesterday and it worked great. If deflected a lot of those little rocks that usually sand blast my face, and some other larger ones that would have hurt. I expected it to get hot under the mask and to steam up using, but I had neither of those problems. It's has a couple of adjustment knobs to get it to sit and feel just right. I wish I had one from the start, it would have made trimming all the weeds on my acreage a lot more comfortable.

We bought two for my wife and I for wood working. Very comfortable and provides a clear view of your work. I like the adjustable opening position, close to your chest and one click out if you need a little more breathing room on a really hot day. There's good airflow so I don't have an issue with fogging or breathing. A hook in the ceiling makes for easy grabbing and quick scratch free storage. It's been easy to clean even when sprayed while turning wet pine.

I prefer ear muffs over ear plugs but the ones I have cannot be used with this shield. If I'm doing something on a quiet tool I'll grab this face shield over safety glasses for comfort and added protection. I wear contacts and I can see clear and prescription eye glasses are not an issue for my wife.

I have just taken down a very negative review and am replacing it with this one. The reason is that I made a doofus mistake, but I have to wonder if I am the only one. The mistake is ...... groan ....... that I failed to notice that the faceshield comes with a peel off protective plastic sheet ..... on both sides of the shield. Since the shield was already installed on the mask I just assumed that it came that way, and the shield was therefore almost unuseable because it was barely translucent. If there was a warning notice, I didn't recognize it. My suggestion for Uvex is that they place a prominent red sticker on the shield that points out to those of us who are, well, dumb ....... that the protective film does need removing. I am really hoping that this review helps someone .... else.
