Excellent pair of leather work gloves once broken in. As some other have mentioned, when new they are quite stiff and uncomfortable hence the 4/5 stars. It is less that the leather itself is stiff, but more that the seams are stitched on the inside of the fingers and take quite a bit of use to break in. Once broken in they are as comfortable as any good pair of leather gloves. The "M-Pact" version do provide a fair amount of blunt force protection. My hand slipped when working in the garage on a 10 degree f day causing me to punch the concrete near full force. My hand basically bounced off unharmed, gloveless it would have been a nasty set of busted/bloody knuckles. So, they have basically already payed for themselves.
I have ordered some 10 pairs of Mechanix type gloves over the past 2+ years, and have returned the majority of them. I did not return this pair. I purchased these not to use in the shop, but in the field for shooting, clay shooting, birding, guiding, and hunting. They feel rugged and very tactile, not as good as issued flight gloves, but close. I would prefer there be more leather on the topside (back of the hand) of the glove, extending all the way up the fingers over the knuckles, because the back of your hands are exposed when in the field, which the nylon/spandex material used on these gloves is prone to snags and tears. Also, the type/grade of leather used on the palm side is very thin, and can puncture easy.
I a bicycle mechanic and ride my bike to work every day rain or shine, when they first came in (wearing size L) I had little discomfort riding in the tips of the few fingers. I owned a old version from 2 years ago and broke them in long ago so I knew I had to wait few weeks to be comfortable in them which did happen so writing this review now. Happy to say they stand up to banging and work I do and handle the gripping of handlebars well, I hate normal bike gloves always flimsy and if you fall they rip easy, so I ride with these to protect my hands and they handle falls well no rips only thing I know is it take 2 years to wear the leather out in the tips of the fingers. Recommend these to anyone.
So far these are my favorite mechanix wear gloves. Most of their gloves fit well and hold up to light work but seem to have the same weakness - the stitching around the finger tips falls apart pretty quickly.
I tried the synthetic ones and they were ok - failing when doing some concrete demo which is pretty hard on any gloves. These have held up since late February (it's April as I write this) and have been through some demo and building.
Not sure how long they will last but I like them.
Second pair (just in case/have on hand) I have purchased; these glove are perfect for just about any yard of DIY project you might have around the home. The back of your hands are protected from incidental impacts while the leather protects your palms. You will love them...just give them a try.

Description
M-Pact Leather work gloves stand tall against rough cut wood, concrete and cold hard steel on the jobsite. The M-Pact is constructed with DuraHide leather to provide extreme abrasion resistance and structural integrity when you’re in full swing. Impact-absorbing Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR) protects the back of the hand from your knuckles to your fingertips. For comfort, D3O palm padding reacts on impact to absorb and dissipate energy through the hand and reduce fatigue as the day goes on.
So far they work great. Use them at work for a barriers between my hands and cold/wet objects being that it is winter. There are other uses of course, but I haven't used them for them yet. Things like wood stacking or throwing hay bails. However my M-Pact 2's did fine so I see no reason why leather wouldn't be even better. Note; leather is not completely waterproof, but it will take you a while to get through it.
These are some very good gloves. They take a beefing and protect your hands well. Nothing beats leather for gloves. These are by far the best versions of these gloves I have owned. Will be buying more once I wear my pair out.
I got the XL and still had an OJ moment trying to get them on. Most XL gloves run bigger than these, BUT these seem to wear on concrete and masonry quite well.
I have two pairs of these. First bought when building a large paver patio. Other gloves fell apart in hours. These did the whole job and then some. I've done every hard job in these without an issue, including cutting and installing metal roofs, carpentry, mechanics, and tree cutting.
I had the M pact for over a year and now have the leather version. These seem to last much longer and I find that my hands don't get as sweaty in these vs the normal mpact. great for the price, but not indestructible
