I got this with the intention of using it to cut through a "kryptonite" U-shaped bike lock. Since it comes with just a grinding wheel, I bought the 5-pack of cutting wheels that Amazon notes are frequently bought in combination with the grinder. Unfortunately I did not heed the advice of another reviewer, who pointed out that the grinder's instruction manual states that a ***Type 1 disc must not be used.*** Instead only a Type 27 disc is allowed, for safety reasons. It has to do with the way the wheel sits within the guard housing, apparently. Unfortunately the frequently bought 5 pack of wheels does not give you a clear picture of the wheel and there is no mention of the "Type" number in the description. Now that have them, the wheels are in fact marked Type 1. So just now I ordered a Type 27 cutting disc. It is easy for the uninformed (such as myself) to assume that since the Type 1 and Type 27 cutting discs have the same 4.5 inch diameter and the same 0.045 inch thickness then they must be identical in size. However after some research I learned that the Type 1 is a flat disc, whereas the Type 27 has a raised portion at its center, which causes it to sit lower in the safety guard.
I had no idea if this was really what I needed but decided to give it a shot. I was laying laminate floors and didnt want to put molding around the base of the fireplace where the flooring didnt fit flush against the stone. I thought if I could cut the stone then the flooring could go under it and would look like the hearth was built over the floor. This grinder with a diamond blade worked like a charm! Im a DIYer so not a professional to judge but this was the best thing to use for my particular project. It was inexpensive and easy to figure out how to use. Warning - use gloves and ear protection and get ready for loads of dust. But it was well worth it! Love this and am sure it will be used again on another project.
I had put ads online for someone to come out and remove some metal fence posts that were surrounded by cement. A man responded to my ad and told me, just go buy a grinder for 20 bucks and do it yourself. I'm female, and not familiar with many tools, so I had never heard of such a thing. But after getting some crazy bids on the job I decided to take that guy's advice.
I was a little concerned about the sparks, but took all the precautions and just did it. It was easy enough that I did all my posts. One disc cut 7 posts, and one disc comes with this. I've posted a picture of what the used disc looks like. I think this $20 grinder is an amazing tool. Even if it quit tomorrow, which I hope it doesn't, I would still have gotten my money's worth out of it.
I was polishing these aluminum wheels and my grinder broke. So what do I do I buy a cheap one from Amazon that will ship soon. For being under $25 this thing was awesome. Work great didn't get hot when working for extended periods of time. I also put huge buffing wheel on it and it handled it fine.
That being said I've only had it for a couple days we'll see how long it lasts. But it already paid for itself.
I must say I am pleased with it, I might edit my review later and give it 5 if it still holds up after a few weeks of grinding. I only used it once the other night to grind down some metal I was welding on and it worked fine. Great for the price. I have nothing bad to say about it so far. However, I will say DO NOT BUY the addon recommended wheel "DEWALT DW4523 4-1/2-Inch by 1/4-Inch by 5/8-Inch General Purpose Metal Grinding Wheel" it is not for this grinder. I did and was mad it was recommended as an addon and it's the wrong type. I would have known if I was more familiar with these wheels, but I'm not.

I'm not sure why I have never invested in one of these before! I've spent countless hours trying to hand-saw or using a Dremel when cutting metal (screws, bolts, pipe, etc). This time I was trying to cut off some rusted galvanized bolts from a boat trailer. The nuts were rusted and seized and I couldn't get it to budge. I even purchased nut splitters, which were worthless. I tried using the dremel and went through several cutting wheels before I gave up. I ordered this B&D Angle grinder and a pack of cutting wheels and I was able to slice through the bolts (8 of them) in a matter of minutes. It was easy to use and a good investment for those will use it infrequently. I lowered it 1 star because it only includes a grind wheel, so I had to purchase the cutting wheel separately.
Great grinder, will cut through about anything. I use it on a regular basis when modifying my Jeep Cherokee and when a large branch fell on my house I grabbed it to cut through some limbs. Very strong grinder, would buy again
The grinder works fine. The motor has plenty of power to accomplish the job. I used it to grind through hardened tool steel on a farm mower with no issues. The guard is a little loose but can be easily adjusted. My biggest complaint is with the pathetic spanner tool supplied to install and remove the grinding wheels. It bent during the initial installation and after one wheel change was completely useless. I ordered a stand alone tool from Amazon that was much more robust and was back in business. My suggestion would be to order a real disc spanner when you order the grinder. I got the SEWA20 and it worked like a charm.
This is a great product for the price. I've used this to make about 20 or so cuts through rebar (with the included blade) and over a 100 cuts on concrete blocks with a diamond blade. The other reviews that complain about the on off switch are correct. The one day I use the grinder with some sand on my hand and the button got stuck in the one position. Very dangerous. I had to unplug to turn off. I ended up having to use water to clean out the sand from the switch but I let it dry thoroughly before plugging in again and the grinder still works great! I used the included metal grinding blade for cutting rebar but if you get a better blade for metal cutting it will go way faster.
If you are planning to do a lot of cuts in concrete blocks I would recommend getting a larger angle grinder 7" or larger. If you can afford it it will save you a lot of time. If you are on a budget this works great if you add some skills with a mason's hammer.
This grinder really surprised me. It's made well, easy to use, priced right, and has a one year warranty. To be clear, this grinder is not meant for commercial use, I doubt it would withstand that kind of work load. But for the homeowner or occasional project person, this is it. When it comes to what type of disc to use, for grinding I would stay with the recommended "type 27" depressed discs (raised center) because of their thickness. Because of their thickness this type of disc must run centered in the disc guard. For cutting however you can use flat discs, which are thinner, as long as they are the correct diameter with a 7/8" center hole. Being thinner means they'll run off center in the disc guard, but that won't affect their use. All you need to do is invert the collet so the shoulder is facing up and the collet is laying flat on the disc. You'll know if the collet is not installed correctly because you won't be able to tighten it enough to secure the disc. For depressed discs the collet goes shoulder toward the disc, for flat discs the collet goes shoulder away from the disc.
