If you have a woodstove as your main source of heat these are great gloves. My woodstove in the winter is burning pretty much 24/7. You need good protection to clean out the stoves ashes on a daily basis as well as rearrange and add wood.
I have a deep stove - a Buckstove Model 91 - it has a 22" deep 4.4 cubic foot firebox. This is a big firebox. I can have a hot layer of coals and feel comfortable reaching all the way to the back to put in wood or clean up the box. Hit the sides - no problem. These gloves are great and were a great price.
If you use a woodstove - furnace - or fireplace, these gloves will be a great tool for you.
I've had these now for almost a year and haven't had any problems with them. They are very comfortable, I like that they come up your forearm and that they are gloves and not just mittens. I haven't had any issues with them catching fire (which I have with some other BBQ gloves and only a few times have I had any issue with them getting too hot and those were usually situations like grabbing and holding a very hot cast iron pan for a little longer than I probably should have.
After about a year, they are showing some wear, but still work great.
Half-way through my third year with these. I have small hands (try to buy the larger size children's when I can) and although these are a bit large, they do fine. I also use them with outdoor grill. They show very little hard wear and I have, on occasion, had to reach into a flaming wood fire (very quickly, mind you). So far, they have not shown any signs of scorching or melting...still do not recommend testing them in this way.
A bit chilly this March AM and so started my wood stove to enjoy with my coffee. I once again used these gloves and realized I hadn't yet reviewed them and so here it is.
Simply great gloves. I heat primarily with wood (about two cords a year) and BBQ and grill just about all year so have used them to pick up a hot mid-section of my Weber smoker and have reached into my Vermont Castings wood stove to rearrange an errant log or two. They are one of those simple things that really work and make life better.
Now. Can I pick up a flaming log or the glow-red end of a branding iron? Nope, But these are not what these are intended for. For every day, common sense, fire wise use, these are really good gloves. Best I've had and I've gone through several pairs in my day.
My last pair were probably more protective (heavy duty welder's) but the seam came undone one day so raised a nice blister. I sworn a bunch and then bought these. Very well made, long cuffed, supple enough so you don't feel like you have a cast on, yet thick enough for common sense protection for every day use.
I liked them so much I bought a pair for a good friend this past Christmas and he loves them too. He will enjoy them a lot longer than we enjoyed the whiskey he got me, cost a lot less too!
I have had thes for almost two years. Winters haven’t been too bad but I use them with my wood burning fireplace. They are the best. I can easily set the wood where I want over hot coles. I can even briefly grab a piece and move it if it hasn’t been in too long. Not sure what else to say. The have held up great and I would buy them again in a heart beat when they eventually do wear out.

Description
Best of handling a chimney starter full of hot coals, lifting a sizzling grill grate, or even reaching across a hot grill. Rough surface handling, animal handling, bite proof gloves
I purchased these several months ago and wow, what a deal! Very nice leather and the perfect fit (I'm a guy with medium/small hands and there is plenty of room but not too much). Thick enough to protect while moving coals around or grasping hot grates but not too thick to make things difficult. I can't say enough about the quality and feel. These seem like they should cost a lot more. I'm very hopeful that they'll last for quite some time.
Great gloves! These gloves are nice and roomy, and very comfortable. Because the material doesn't stretch, they don't cling, so they are easy to put on and take off. I find that when I'm grilling, I put them on and take them off all the time, so that makes a big difference. They seem to insulate really well also. I bought another pair of grill gloves (called "#1 Grill Gloves"), also at Amazon, and I like them too. They are the kind of gloves that are made of an Aramid material that withstands heat up to around 660 degrees, but they are stretchy and not nearly as easy to put on and take off as these. Also, they tend to show dirt to a much greater extent. If I were only buying one pair of gloves, I would buy the G&F gloves, but I like having the others in case I ever want to pick up a hot cast iron grid or something like that, which I probably wouldn't try with these gloves. Highly recommended!
I wear these gloves whenever I griil; whichever hand is over the grates, or both, has one of these gloves on it. I use a Thermapen to determine the temperature inside the meat. This means moving the probe slowly through the meat to find the lowest temperature. That means hand(s) over *hot* grates for a period while I check each piece of meat. Without these nice, *long* gloves I would have a char on my hands, arms and the Thermapen. They aren't too tight so that I can take them off with one hand, but not too loose that I am swimming in them. I have not experimented with them to see how long it would take to heat up my fingers, but I have had my protected hand over the (really) hot grates for about 90 seconds and felt no heat nor have the gloves suffered any damages. These are ten times better than the leather work-gloves I used to use while grilling.
I have no direct experience using these gloves with wood fires (SWFL is not a fire-pit/fireplace environment unless you're cooking weenies on the beach.), but by extrapolation of the leather work-gloves' experience on grills and fireplaces in the northern reaches, I would have been grateful to have them with my old fireplace and grill.
If these gloves disappeared, I would get the same ones again. Love 'em.
Burnt the $#!& out of my finger while pulling a rack out of my smoker with silicon oven mitts, so I bought this set on the advice of "Meathead" Meathead: The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling. I love my new gloves. I can put hot stainless steel smoker trays in and out without worry, I can pick up cooked food off the racks, and I can remove the hot water pan from my smoker without feeling any heat.
I've gotten these gloves really dirty (pork shoulder juice), swapped racks, moved thermometer probes, and even peeled excess cooked fat off of meat with them without even the slightest discomfort.
I was going back and forth researching gloves to use around my fireplace. Checking lengths and material vs cost and durability. I probably spent 3 hours researching and finally pulled the trigger on these. The length is perfect. Just meeting my forearm and is short enough to throw on and throw off easily without having to "undress" every time you want to take the gloves off. I use it for throwing wood on the fire, stoking the fireplace etc so easy on, easy off was required - this fit the bill. Another thing is the heat resistance. No you cant put your hand in the fire or on the BBQ and leave it there for 5min but I have had 0 heat issues with placing a log in the fire by hand wearing these.
Finally the feel of these gloves are great. Supple yet durable. The look more expensive they they are and the liner inside is very comfortable.
Oh and they are made right here in america.
Get them!
