GearLight High-Powered LED Flashlight S1200 - Mid Size, Zoomable, Water Resistant, Handheld Light with 5 Modes - Best High Lumen Camping, Outdoor, Emergency Flashlights

WHY, WHY, WHY, in the wide world of sports would anyone give this light less than 5 stars!? I camp a I lot....I own many different types of lights and this one is superior in many ways when compared to the "tactical" lights everyone loves so much.
You will be amazed at its ability to "throw" light so much farther! Sometimes it is not just about how "bright" the light appears but how much power and lensing components' can help you see in the deep dark.
I use my "tactical" light to look around my tent and I use my (Gear- Light) to look around the forest!
Also the Customer Service Dept. is first rate and fast. I had a problem with one of my lights so I sent them an email and within 3 days I had a new one, now that was fast! Remember this light is a little larger than the standard pocket size that are so popular and it's very well made (solid), it does not disappoint. Yes I would buy this again without hesitation.

All in all, while not a *perfect product*, this is a great one for the price. Part of what people need to take into account is cost and given what you get the price is really excellent. So if you don't want to read the long story, the short one is that I don't see how you can go wrong with this flashlight. Recommended without reservation!

For those that like the long story... here you go!

Pros
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
+ Price!
+ Features
+ Super solid feeling, good weight and tight build
+ Accepts 3x AA or 1x 18650 or 26650
+ Thick glass lens

Cons
-------------------------
- Minor quality issues
- Single button on/off combined with mode changing

For the price, my Cons are really quibbles. I knew both of those going into the purchase and as such they are not surprises and no deduction on my star rating. However here are my comments on those.

There are minor imperfections in the materials. One of my two units had minor scuffs through the black on the tail end. Both had minor scratching or possibly original surface defects in the glass lens. Neither of these affected my use or my opinion of the flashlight.

I also know that for this price I'm not getting two switches where mode is handled in a different button. I know that but I'd still like to have it. I'm not always reasonable ;) .

On the flip side, the pros are great.

This flashlight is a really really good price for what you get. This is not one of those puny AA penlight sized flashlights. It's more like the size of a D cell old style light but a bit shorter than a 2 D cell flashlight. When you pick it up, you feel like you have something in your hand. No plastic junk or thin metal. It's built nicely.

It has the fairly standard tail switch (press) to both turn it on/off and change modes. What is a bit different about it is that it has standoffs on the tail so you can actually stand it up on the tail. Most lights in this price range are just a button on the tail and it's not realistic to stand them that way. I like being able to stand it up when it's on at times to use it more generally as a light and not have to hold it. The nose end also has standoffs so it can easily be left standing on either end but mostly likely not left on while on its nose (more for storage).

The on/off/mode switch works fine (single switch small grumble here). When off, pressing the button fully in turns it on. When on, pressing it fully in turns it off. When on, partial presses cycle between modes: High (bright)/Medium/Low/Strobe/SOS flashing. If in High/Medium/Low and you turn it off, when you turn it back on it will come on in the same mode. If in Strobe/SOS mode and you turn it off, the next time you turn it on it will be in High mode. Holding the button down for longer, when turning it on, clears the mode and starts it High.

The flashlight is very flexible on batteries. It comes with both a 3x AA holder and an 18650 spacer. Both of those are 26650 size. The options are very good. I have tested on 3x Powerex Imedion 2400mAh NiMH cells and brightness and runtime are very good. I don't have runtime results and I probably won't take time to do real tests but my informal use of the flashlight, quite a lot over the last day, make me think it's going to be very nice.

I have some 26650 cells in route to me and I'll post an update once they have been charged and I've given them a try. I'm hoping for great results. They are my first foray into Lithium cells. :P

Lastly, i know there are reports of scratches in the glass lens. Mine does have some light scratching on the inside and a bit on the outside but realistically in a flashlight I'm never going to know they are there unless I look closely. Keep in mind this is a very inexpensive flashlight, that you get a lot of value for. I don't know what the cost would be to have a perfectly polished glass lens but I (personally) would rather not pay more for something that doesn't really matter in the context of what this is and how it is used. If it was a magnifying glass or eye glasses or a telescope or microscope... sure. I'd definitely want perfection. In a sub 20 dollar flashlight... meh.

All of that and back to the same thing I reported at the top. Great value. It's a pretty inexpensive and very useful tool. I'm thrilled... two thumbs up!

Update: My error about the lens. It really seemed like glass but i figured out how to take it apart and it is synthetic. I'm unsure about the actual material but this doesn't depreciate how i feel about this product.

This flashlight is just okay. Lasted just under two months, and died last night after giving me trouble for several days (flickering light levels). Whacking it gently seemed to fix the problem temporarily, until it died. Hadn't given me any trouble until then, and I've always kept the batteries charged. I used 4 Samsung INR18650-25R 18650 2500mAh 3.7v Rechargeable Flat Top Batteries. These have been very good cells for me, and worked well in other flashlights. However, in this one, they just didn't last that long. I only got good light levels for about an hour at a time before experiencing severe light level drop off, forcing me to change batteries. Disappointed.

UPDATE: I'm leaving the original review up, but GearLight did send me a new light, and I hadn't even asked for a replacement. Personalized letter, the whole bit. They even included batteries (Duracell AA's). Just tested the new light, and it is definitely brighter than the first I bought. Therefore, I'll give a star for the customer service. Something like this isn't often seen from many companies these days. However, only time and daily use will tell whether this one will last, and whether this one will eat my batteries for breakfast. I'll do my best to update in a few weeks. We'll see.

OK - I am officially a geek. I did not think I could be thrilled by a flashlight but this honestly brings me utter joy. Let me say that I do not often write reviews but, I depend on them by others when making my purchases. Yeah, I need to be better. But this deserves a five star review. Seriously. I did not know that I had a "flashlight thing" but after years of frustration with half glow flashlights when I REALLY needed full illumination and distance (e.g. lost kitty, car breakdown in the middle of nowhere, power outage, and worst of all: the lost sparkle kitty toy under the stove) I was in serious search of the perfect flashlight. This is it. It turns night into day and there is no guesswork about where you are or the details of what you need to see. The garage actually lights up better with this flashlight than daylight or turning on the lights. The telescoping function lets you focus on fuses, mechanics or details that you couldn't normally do. I love the strobe and SOS function. I got this one for my evacuation kit but after testing it immediately bought two more for each of our cars. I am buying another for general household - and thinking of buying a few more for gifts.I am not affiliated with the company in any way - but wish I had stock (LOL) - this is genuinely an awesome product. It also comes with an adaptor if you choose to use rechargeable batteries (thank you for thinking green). Now if they only had a solar charging option it would be PERFECTION. Stop looking - this is the best out there.

Arrived with debris or a major scratch on the inside lens. It is hard to tell from the picture were the scratch is but it is on the inside not the outside. Update
Manufacture saw the review and sent me a second flash light free of charge....they lens on the second was flawless. Bright light, well made, over all seems to be a quality product.

Excellent Flashlight. I bought this flashlight for the Zoom feature. A friend of mine has a newspaper route where it is hard to see the house numbers on the houses at night without getting out of the car and walking up their driveway to see the house number. Well with this flashlight she does not have to get out of her car anymore. She just zooms the light and can see the house numbers from her car. And the light is very very bright. One of the brightest I have ever seen. Again, an excellent flashlight. Also, the on/off button is at the end of the flashlight where it is easy to find in the dark. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

This flashlight feells very solid. I read reviews and a lot of people asking about light output. So, since I have the LUX meter at work I decided to check it. There was no LED setting and I used L but it still should give the reference to the LUX output. I know that 1 LUX is 1 Lm measured per square meter but not sure exactly how manufacturers measure it. So, I was holding the flashlight one foot away from the sensing pad. And that's what I got. (Please, take a look at the pics). I had to change scale for full zoom so the reading is times 10. It is really powerful flashlight! I use it at work and all my coworkers carry flashlights as well.. Let me tell you: my flashlight was the brightest! Some of the guys already went shopping for it))). Hope, my review helps. P.S. Yes, you can use three AA batteries or one 18650. I am thinking to try 26650 as well. Thanks for reading!

EDIT!!! - this company is awesome and doesn't deserve the negative review I gave them... things happen, not every single minute detail or faulty area can be screened or prevented, but what can happen is a company with quality products can back those products and make right anything that may have gone wrong. That's exactly what this company did and they did it extremely promptly at that. I love love love these lights and really appreciate the company and how they back their products even more. Will be making additional purchases and I suggest you don't hesitate to buy one as well. Beautiful flashlights and nothing to lose bc these guys take care of you very well.

Initial review-
Initially, I loved this light!... BUT, the led burned out! So bummed and I really really liked this flashlight too... I was just thinking about how well built it was and then it just crapped out on me... I'll have to check but I'm hoping this company can/will do something to remedy the problem so that I can properly review the item if so...

WOW....great light, great price! I use it as an every day carry (EDC), and it's probably a little big for that, as there are many extremely compact but still bright lights on the market. I don't care...I love this light. I have about 6 different EDC's, and this is far and above my favorite. The spot (fully zoomed out) is incredibly bright and extends out as far as my 2100 lumens (dual 18650) Nitcore. However, I use this light in the zoomed in mode to walk my dog at night. In that mode, it's very easy to look at (IE - doesn't hurt the eyes like many of the flashlights I own do) and it lights up a huge circle in the immediate vicinity. Don't let the low price fool you....this is a great quality light.

Pretty cool light. My first tactical so not a lot to compare against but this is bright. The beam can reach along way. Seems well built the only things are as mentioned in other reviews are. The lens is close to even with the end of the light seems vulnerable to getting scratches. And the on/off button protrudes past the handle end and won’t stand up solidly. It will stand but leans would be more stable if the button wasn’t in the way.
But still a really nice light.

1/20/18 light is well worth it. Very pleased and the customer service is awesome. Son in law needed a new o-ring for the one we got him.
Contacted them Sunday got the parts, they sent an extra in 3 days.
