Delta Faucet Leland Single-Handle Touch Kitchen Sink Faucet with Pull Down Sprayer, Touch2O and ShieldSpray Technology, Magnetic Docking Spray Head, Venetian Bronze 9178T-RB-DST

I've had this faucet for almost a year (purchased Dec 20th, 2013), and it's been performing exceptionally well. The reason I had to take off one star is for its Achilles heal - the plastic retainer for its extension hose. The first time I turned on the faucet and tested all the components, the retainer snapped off and sent water spraying all over my cabinet. Thankfully, I was prepared for this after reading the one star rated review on here. I remedied that fault by using two zip ties to keep the retainer in place, and I highly recommend that you do the same. See the photo attached.

Other than that, everything is very well built, and has a great feel to it. I was a bit turned off by the plastic water lines, but from what I've read, all new faucets are like that. The material is much safer for drinking water and just as strong as copper pipes.

Purchase from Amazon Jan. 2012.
Had one issue (see below), but otherwise an outstanding faucet. We've had the Venetian Bronze finish version for 2 1/2 years, and performance and finish of the faucet has been outstanding. The bronze finish is a really nice look, and the picture is mostly accurate. (have a picture, sorry not the best quality) We paid $238 at the time. It's a very nice looking faucet; good size, craftsmanship, features, handle.

Both the spray and the regular flow work very well; nice, consistent, and well designed flow types. The rocker switch is a hard plastic, which is much more durable than the soft rubber types. The bronze finish we have has lasted really well so far. It cleans easily and shows no signs of chipping, scratching, fading, etc. The magnetic dock/latch feature still works great, just as great as the day I installed it. As far as installation goes, it's just a normal faucet install, quite simple for most people.

Issue: at 2 1/2 years, we started noticing black specs in the water. (see picture) I didn't know if this was something with our city water, our house, or this particular faucet. Turns out, it was this faucet. I called Delta and they were really helpful; it's a known problem and supposedly not a safety/health concern. It is, indeed, the rubber. It was no hassle, and a replacement hose/wand is on the way. I would assume this has been fixed in production, but I don't know. And the other question is whether the same type of hose was used across different products. But at least the customer support was great. I would buy this product again, but can't do 5 stars because of that issue.

Edit: With having kids, our hot water is not set very hot, so it's not like we exposed the hose to extreme temps. I don't know the temp, but it's quite low. The black specs were mostly noticeable when we used hot water, not so much the cold.

Update 9/10/15: Replacement hose came. A side by side picture of the two are uploaded, new one on the right. The new wand assembly doesn't dock as well, and the changes are evident. The hose braiding and connection near the head are totally different, and I suspect the slight increase in the height of the fitting is what keeps the back side from sticking as well as before. It still docks okay, but it takes more intention in doing so. I suppose only time will tell if this hose holds up.

Update 9/28/16: Faucet and hose continue to perform great. The replacement hose from a year ago is still functioning okay.

We replaced a leaky old (2007) Moen single handle pull out with this Delta “Leland” 9178-AR-DST
last week.

This was a DIY install, so I was quite grateful for much of the thoughtful sharing of experience and lessons learned by many other reviewers here, particularly Mr Mojo.

I wasn't sure whether to give this 3 or 4 stars because we do like it, but there are significant shortcomings. It seems that mid-range plumbing fixtures like this tend to have serious design and quality issues affecting reliability and durability. We would have been willing to buy a significantly more expensive fixture, but I saw too many bad experiences with much more expensive faucets, so the higher price point would only have been more infuriating had there been issues.

It really is a nice looking fixture, and will certainly complement a kitchen with stainless appliances, etc. Be aware that though the hub and spout arm seem to be metal, the rest seems to be plastic. Arctic Stainless is a color/finish, not a descriptor for stainless steel.

We installed the faucet with the handle on the left, and had no problems. If you are attentive to the installation instructions and the space limitations in your kitchen, you should be able to install this unit with the handle on the left, right, front, or back with no problem. We like the fact that the sprayer magnetically attaches to the arm so you can pull it off or turn slightly and remove it even more easily by exposing opposite poles of the magnets.

The sprayer toggles with a switch on the spout from stream to spray, as we expected, and the sprayer turns freely, so you can keep the toggle switch hidden on the back, in full view in the front, etc. As of this writing, the listing info above for this faucet shows a third "Multi-Flow" feature with "a higher flow for quick fills" - that is not correct. Low flow stream, low flow spray, that’s it. If I REALLY need a quick, high volume fill for something, I’ll probably go to the laundry tub anyway – lots of room and no flow governor there.

Some have mentioned that the retractable hose for the spout can bind after some time. A few suggested silicone grease, which I would be concerned may collect dirt and gunk up on the hose and within the faucet arm (where you can’t easily clean) after some time. So, I used “B’Laster Silicone Spray Lubricant”, similar to this one https://smile.amazon.com/Blaster-16-SL-Silicone-Lube-11-Ounces/dp/B0019LV3GO , instead. The sprayer hose slides like butter on a griddle! To lubricate, I laid the fixture assembly in our laundry tub to catch overspray, pulled the hose ALMOST all the way through the fixture assembly, sprayed it on the exposed hose and wiped it around with my hand, let it dry/soak in for a while, and gently wiped with a paper towel to remove any excess. Then I pulled the hose ALMOST all the way back through the other side, and repeated the procedure. I've also used this silicone spray with shower rods in the baths. I've also installed plastic shower rod covers over our wood hanger rods in our closets, coating with the silicone spray, air drying for some time, and wiping them prior to install. CLEAN, extremely smooth, almost disarmingly easy movement on these rods years after application.

One thing that concerns me about the sprayer hose is that there is no brake to keep the hose from being pulled out so far that it would stress the rigid plastic junction where the vulnerable rigid plastic clip is installed. The weight that comes with this unit slides freely along the hose, and is not designed to be clamped on. We have some extra weights around here from other fixtures such as the Moen I just removed, and on those fixtures they were affixed to an appropriate point along the hose in order to prevent excessive hose withdrawal. I may try putting one of them on our new Delta 9178 hose. Or, since my kids are pretty much grown, maybe we’ll just hope no one gets too enthusiastic with the sprayer.

The main thing that concerns me about the sprayer hose is the precarious way that the hose assembly attaches to the faucet assembly, held in place by a rigid plastic clip. This is a serious, unnecessary risk resulting from stunningly bad design. Before buying this faucet, I called Delta to see if they have redesigned this junction – unbelievably, they have not. However, the customer service lady said that if the clip breaks or comes off, they will provide another clip free under the warranty, but that won’t do much for the water damage. I almost didn’t buy the 9178 because of this design danger, but other products I looked at all had their own reliability and durability issues. Reviewer Mr. Mojo thoughtfully articulated a solution, complete with photo, so I thought I would give the 9178 a chance. I saw first hand how easy it would be to dislodge that clip – accidentally bumping it knocked it off rather easily. In fact, in attempting to replicate Mr. Mojo’s solution, the zip ties, when installed per his photo, actually dislodged the clip from the hose junction as I tightened the zip ties at the specified locations– the clip was left hanging in place but the junction was no longer secured. To solve that problem, I relocated the zip ties per the photos attached to this review, and they are situated so that the clip can not come off so long as the ties are in place and the clip remains unbroken. Just don’t overtighten the ties, or the rigid clip may eventually break from that pressure.

Ok, I have to preface this review by saying out of the thousands of items I have bought on Amazon, I have never felt the need to write a review.

While the faucet is amazing and we are happy with the purchase, it is the customer service that warrants a review over 3 years later. After 3 years of flawless service we started to notice that the handle needed to be pushed hard and in a very precise location to stop the faucet from dripping. I looked into this and found that this is a somewhat common problem after a few years of use. The bonnet nut and valve cartridge (both located in the handle) can wear out causing this issue to appear.

I was able to locate these parts for purchase online and in fact on Amazon. However, someone in the reviews for the parts wrote that Delta will replace these items for free if you contact them. Low and behold I wrote them my problem via email and I kid you not, 10 minutes later they already wrote me back saying they were mailing the parts out.

They came in the mail today, just replaced and the faucet works flawlessly again. This level of customer service is rare nowadays and again warranted a positive review from someone who never writes them!

I bought this faucet four months ago (04APR15) to replace an older Delta that came with my house. With the exception of three minor details, my wife and I both think it's outstanding. Originally I wanted to replace the previous faucet with an identical model as I found it very satisfactory, but it was discontinued and I didn't have time to rebuild it. After spending hours going through reviews I discovered that kitchen faucet assessments are extremely subjective and overall weren't that helpful - I purchased and installed three other faucets that were cheaper but got good reviews. After installing and trying each of them out, I removed and returned them. Finally, I bit the bullet and purchased this one and have been extremely pleased.

Pros:
- Very solid construction. The weight of it really surprised me when I took it out of the box. It easily weighs three times what the cheaper faucets weighed. Fit and finish is great.
- Very easy and quick to install. Came with good instructions. I took my time and still had it in and running within 30 minutes.
- Good positive control with the lever. Took a little getting used to having a lever that moves forward and back, rather than left and right, but had the hang of it within a day or two.
- Magnet on the goose-neck maintains a solid connection when the hose is retracted.
I could keep going, but it would take forever to list all the things I like about it.

Cons:
- Expensive. I couldn't believe how much was being charged for kitchen faucets. In Delta's defense, at this quality level all of the other brands' prices were comparable or higher. Wow! Just ... wow!
- Finish. The Arctic Stainless looks good, but I wish they had one in brushed nickel. This has a sort of blue-ish hue to it which doesn't really match other stainless fixtures. Having said that, nobody else that's seen it has commented on it, so maybe it's just me. After owning it this long, it doesn't really register anymore anyways.
- The optional escutcheon (the long plate that you can install between the sink surface and the faucet itself) lays perfectly flat on my sink. If water splashes up on it, it won't run off. It just sits there on the plate until you wipe it off or it evaporates, which can leave spots. Not critical, just annoying.

Additional notes regarding comments I've read in the other reviews:

It's too tall. - Yes, it is tall. I was concerned about this before I bought it but it's actually one of the things I like best about it now. My previous faucet was much shorter which I thought I liked until I tried this one. I find hand-washing and rinsing dishes (especially large pots) much easier with the tall neck - I can just shift stuff from one side to the other without having to lift stuff over or around the neck.

You can't adjust it to a specific temperature, then turn it off and back on to the same temp without adjusting it again. - Seriously? Personally, I've never seen a faucet that you can do this with. I'm sure one must exist somewhere, just not sure why you'd want it. Not only do I not see much value in it during normal usage, but I also think this would be a serious safety concern, especially if you have small children (or inattentive adults) in your house.

I read an awful lot of comments in the 1- and 2-star ratings in regards to water pressure (spray is too strong/weak) and problems adjusting the water temp to the perfect spot. My recommendation to these folks is to check their household water pressure and water-heater settings. Many of their problems I'm pretty sure have nothing to do with the faucet itself. Just sayin'...

UPDATE 01/13/2017:
Ended up moving and had to leave this beauty behind. For the 2 years I had it, it worked perfectly. I just renovated the countertops and sink in my new home and replaced the old faucet with another Delta Leland. This time I got the plain stainless steel instead of the Arctic Stainless since it was a better match for the rest of the appliances. It's an awesome faucet and I highly recommend it.

I bought this faucet early this year and I liked it. The faucet came with a head/wand with a traditional design of switching between center main stream and perimeter spray which suited me fine. Then I ordered the same faucet again last month. I noticed, after installation, that the faucet, although with the same part number as the previous one, had a spray-shield head (see photo). After using it for a day or so I really disliked it. The center main stream was reduced in diameter and shifted to the side and the perimeter streams were reduced to make room for an added shield-spray. Rather than reducing water spray according to the product description, the water splashed all over, a typical example of over-engineering in my opinion. I then checked the photos on Amazon and noticed that all photos still show the standard head except one shows the water flow of shield-spray. Fortunately when I contacted Delta Customer Services they kindly offered to send me a regular head for replacement, otherwise I would have to uninstall and then return the faucet. It is confusing that the faucet with a single part number came with two different heads. Perhaps Delta changed the design between my two purchases? It's a good faucet but you want to make sure that you get the head that you prefer.

Functionality trumps this faucets visual appeal, so therefore don't purchase this pretty little lemon. Right out of the box and installed upon first use, it leaks from the pull down hose end. I followed all the instructions for troubleshooting, but unfortunately tightening the handle nut, didn't stop it from leaking. This will get returned for a full refund to the seller on Amazon. People, trust the 1 star reviews on here...I should have known better...my father always told me to look at the 1 star reviews BEFORE you purchase anything. Lesson learned...the hard way.

UPDATE 1 day later. So I'm a little bummed I had to purchase a replacement valve cartridge (RP50587) for $30 extra $...but it no longer leaks anymore! Yeah!!! I increased the rating from 1 star to 3 stars...because I'm not sure on the durability of this part and if it becomes an every 6 month replacement piece...then it'll drop back to 1 star or if it holds its own and no more leaks than it'll rise up to 5 stars. Thanks.

Update 2 days later. The sellers response to my purchase problem is what boosted this from a 3 star to 4 star. Ampersand Market actually paid me back the $30 difference in part RP50587 valve cartridge. Awesome service. Still no leaks after this part was replaced.

I have had my spot free stainless faucet for 2 months and I love it. As long as you wipe off any drips on the stainless, it looks brand new. I love the ShieldSpray Technology. It really helps remove food stuck to your plate like cheese, potatoes, rice, etc. I’ve used it to clean out the bottom of my kitchen recycle bin and it worked great. I’ve also used it to pinpoint water directly on a stain on clothes. I didn’t think I’d get much use out of it, but I use it all the time. People have asked if you can install it with the handle on the left and the answer is yes. Mine is on the left and I had it installed so the cold water is in the up position and the hot is down. Works great! The faucet head stays in place when returned to the docking station. I would definitely recommend this faucet. I’m not getting paid and was not even asked to write this review.

After trying and failing to install a flawed (and less expensive) faucet, I ordered this one. It was one of my best decisions ever. I installed the faucet myself (64-year-old retired woman) and was completely intimidated after having so much trouble with the earlier. This one went in like a dream. The instructions were not terribly complete, but they were much better than instructions on other faucets. I was able to follow them, between the explanations and the pictures. There were two items I particularly liked, as far as installation. First, this faucet includes a brass fitting, about 2" square, that is placed onto the faucet UNDER the counter. It is solid brass, and is held in place with a brass nut. When it was in place, and tightened, it prevented the faucet from wobbling at all. I've seen reviews about wobbly faucets, but this brace seems to prevent that problem, and if it does get loose I can tighten the nut again--though that is a bit awkward, just because of placement. Still, it can be done. The second thing I really liked was the clip for the push-in connection of the sprayer hose. I am not a fan of that type of connection. I have not had good luck with them. Adding a solidly built plastic clip that attaches above and below the connection itself made me feel much safer. I struggled with this type of connection in the past, and had them pop loose immediately, and again after a week of use. This one is protected, which makes me feel better. On top of that, the connections to the supply lines worked easily. The faucet's lines pushed in, I tightened the nuts, and everything was fine. It helped, too, that there are plastic inserts in the end of the faucet's supply lines that are color coded--blue for cold water, red for hot--so I didn't have to worry about what to connect where. I've had faucets that were not marked, and faucets that had a piece of tape, or some other less effective marker. This was the best. Overall, the installation was ten times easier than installation on the half-dozen faucets I have installed over the years. I watched for leaks for a few days, but there were none. The quality of the faucet is also good. It is solid, quite heavy, and really attractive. I love the antique look and the finish. The magnet on the sprayer head is also nice, helping the head to anchor smoothly and quickly. The weight on the sprayer hose was a donut, so I didn't have to fuss with lining up screws and fastening the weight. It slides on and positions itself at the lowest point. This is the most I have ever spent on a faucet, but I have to say it was well worth the extra money. We've been using the faucet for a month, with no problems at all, and we are very happy with it.

Works wonderfully. Easy install with all the parts and tools needed included. As another reviewer said, the hardest part was getting the old one out. It took me under an hour all by myself and I'm a 50+ year old short woman.
It looks a little shorter in person than I expected, but it is the correct height. I think it is just a little bigger around than the one I replaced. The faucet works great and while the pull out hose is plastic, the metal one it is replacing is what went bad on my old faucet after 3 years, so the less bulk and easier function, as well as trading up to Delta quality makes it well worth the trade-off.
I'm 'not tall' so it was a stretch for me, however the included tool made tightening the brass nut easy - however don't try to use the tool till you get it snugged up hand tight (much easier to spin it up the shaft with your fingers.) I had to get out twice and reposition the faucet on top because wrestling the bracket into place turned it a little. At that point the adjustment was simple.
The head switch from straight stream to sprayer is hard plastic and switches back and forth very easily. My old one had a soft rubber cover over the switch and it was very difficult to switch, so I appreciate this one.
Water pressure seems as good or better than before.
The faucet has an option to limit the range of motion so you only get hot/cold mix and can't scald yourself... but it comes defaulted to regular use and I can't imagine how anyone would want to change that.
There are extra bushings enclosed for if you want to adjust the length of the supply lines, however it is recommended that you just loop them. I just pushed them out like big parenthesis to fit my space.
