The only reason I took away 1 star is because this is my 2nd purchase of the same Phive light, as my 1st one was defective. I ordered this for my sewing desk, & the 1st one I ordered was beautifully bright, but would flicker something awful!!! It flickered so badly that it almost looked like a strobe light! Knowing that this lamp had some great reviews, I gave it another try, hoping it was a fluke. Turned out that it was just that, & I couldn't be happier with the replacement I received!!! Super bright, smooth, white lighting in which the month that I've had it, it's never once flickered or even come close! And I can have it on for many hours straight, & it will still be cool to touch.

I do a ton of sewing & alterations daily & need my desk area to be well lit with very bright lighting in order for my work to look professional. Since my desk is in the corner of the room, it barely gets touched by the overhead light. I previously had 2 desk lamps on my 1 desk that still weren't bright enough or even as bright or cover as much space as this one does when both were on at the same time! And the 2 I had were brand name lamps that were not cheap! Not to mention the amount of desk space that was lost by having 2 lamps on my 1 small desk! This light takes up almost no space at all! And it is high enough to clear my serger and coverstitch machine's thread rails when they are at their full height.

This light can also be ridiculously bright- which is what I needed! And though I never really turn the brightness down, I like the fact that I can if I want to & it's very easy & smooth to do so. It moves & turns easily when I need to change the direction of the light. But even that is rare for me to do as it covers such a large range of space as it is. I also have my ironing board directly behind my chair, and this one lamp covers both my desk & ironing board area sufficiently! And I really need my board well lit also as I sometimes need to be accurate when ironing tiny spaces for sewing. I love that it only takes one light tap on top(which is very easy to reach) to turn it on and off, so I don't have to fidget trying to feel down the wire to get to the light switch. I believe the price of this lamp was extremely reasonable for the brightness, ease of use, space saving ability & sharp look that you get for it!!! I highly recommend this to anyone needing a very high quality desk lamp! And if for some reason you do get a defective one as I did...don't give up! The return was extremely easy, fast, & I didn't have to pay extra for shipping because of the defect. It was well worth it!!! Hope this helps!

(+) A very nicely made light, well adapted for a flat or a tilt table. Ample distribution of light, with a height range of 13"-28" which easily illuminates up to a width of 48". High quality material components.

(-) These are easily solved, but worth mentioning. Several buyers have commented that it tends to wobble on it's base. I think that is because some units arrive with only one 'O' ring on the post-mount. The post mount has two grooves for two 'O' rings and that solved the wobble problem when I installed the second one from the extras in the parts bag for this. Note: Apply silicon grease to extend their life (available at auto parts and plumbing supplies). Also the instruction/installation sheet is bare bones and should not be called a "manual" as some buyers have referred to it as. It leaves out the fact that although the light can be turned 'off ' at the cord switch, it cannot be turned back 'on' without touching the sensor switch located on top of the light bezel. Therefore, I leave the cord switch "on" at all times, and use the sensor switch to adjust the light intensity by using a gentle but sustained touch on the sensor, and turn the light on & off by using just a momentary touch. In this way, the unit "remembers" the previously set level of light intensity.

Nice and well built product. Great light with diffusion. As a photographer I needed a close to daylight desk lamp, not heating ; this one is perfect for me.

I"ve been looking for desk lamp that didn't have to sit on my desk and was tall enough to hover over my iMac 27". This, for me, couldn't be more perfect. It's got a very thin design from the clamp through the neck and actual lamp-- nothing is wider than 2 inches. It's amazingly svelte and from certain angles almost invisible. Everything is by touch, gentle touch I should add.

The lamp has a stationary square on top that is raised like a button but rather than press you just touch and it turns the lamp on. Touch and hold and it gets brighter or darker depending on when you lift your hand. There is no buzz from it and the light goes from white bright to warm. I can't think of one thing I'd fix.

UPDATE: Having used it daily since my purchase there is one feature missing that I think would make a huge difference; The ability to swivel the head so you can aim it away from your eyes.

Bigger than the other ones offered, which is what I needed. Very adjustable in all directions. The head of the light swivels and spins. Can be locked down in any position with allen wrenches. Arm is able to go straight up. I know some of these types have a problem with that. Seems very durable and the light settings are perfect for what I need. It may not be bright enough for very detailed designers and architects. In the picture, it is being used over 24" monitors.

Update 02/26/2019
The lamp suddenly went dark after 22 months. Great hype that the LEDs last 50000 hours, but the warranty on the lamp only lasts one year. I really expected a little better from a $60 lamp.

First bought a similar lamp that was about $20 cheaper. It had some features I miss: a combination of 3 color temperatures and 3 brightness levels (9 options). The intermediate color was appealing - seemed closest to soft white incandescent. The arm was also more "articulated" with more degrees of freedom to swivel the light panel, and the panel stayed nearly horizontal as the arm position was shifted. On the downside, it was cheaply constructed (plastic hinges, external springs) and the clamp wouldn't stabilize on the 3/4" overhang of my desk without some additional hardware (not included). Still, I was disappointed when after ~ 3 weeks one of the plastic hinges broke, and I had to return it.

Immediately ordered the Phive CL-1 as a replacement. The clamp holds reasonably well to my minimal desktop overhang without additional hardware, although it has managed to shimmy off a couple of times. Construction seems rugged - essentially all metal, with no external springs or plastic hinges. The touch control is tap-on/tap-off. Touch-and-hold provides continuous brightness adjustment (not just 3-levels like the lamp it replaced.) However, I miss the color options of the old lamp - the Phive produces a very bright white - almost office fluorescent - just have to dim it down a bit. The "joints" are fairly stiff - I usually use two hands when repositioning, and the lamp panel always has to be re-leveled when the upper arm is moved.

Still, does the job, and seems to be a good value for quality product.

Not sure how everyone that bought this lamp uses it but from my standpoint, it has a fatal error in its construction. As you can see in the photo(no the brightest mode) it dazzles eyes with the light[when they below the lamp head level] and unfortunately, it doesn't have an ability to at least slightly rotate and direct the lamp in the opposite direction from the eyes. For me, it's extremely unclear why no one else noticed this fact and construction wasn't improved till this time(I'd like to be able to rotate the lamp head around its axis at least with short aomlitude[as I understand there will limitation due to cord] and with this improvement, this lamp would the best what you can buy on the Amazon).

Except for this constructive issue, this lamp is really great and solidly constructed with nice packing. I strongly believe the manufacturer will take into account my suggestion and other users will find my comment useful.

Update: 9/30//17
The seller reached out to me immediately to address my complaints. I guess there was a design issue that is going to be resolved. I'm satisfied with PHIVE aftersales service and would recommend its products.

Although a bit expensive for what it is, this is a great little lamp, especially for modelers/crafters. Even with an overhead light using (2) 100w equivalent LED bulbs, my room still had dark areas around the sides, and my head would throw shadows across my work space. I was looking for a swing-arm LED lap that I could add to my desk and after viewing a number of cheaper options on Amazon, I decided to go with the Phive based on the glowing reviews.

The lamp works great and has almost all of the adjustability that I need for my space. The only thing I would consider lacking is the head movement is limited to swivel and rotate. There is no up/down (pitch) control which could be a problem if you need to get the light focused in on something. However, after mounting the light to the back of my desk and not the side, it works fine for me. The mounting piece is the only other real downside, simply because of how large it is. It is able to clamp to a 3" thick desk, but on a thinner desk, especially one with a "back' like mine, you can't get it tight without warping the back. However, to solve this I flipped the mount upside down so that the clamping part fits onto the lip of the glass top on my desk without interfering with the wood "back".

The mounting piece has holes on the top and bottom allowing you to flip it, however, the "lock" only exists when mounting it upright. If you put the second o-ring (included but was not installed on my unit) onto the shaft of the light fixture, it sits in the mounting piece very tightly and does not need the locking piece at all. Hopefully, my included pictures make this more clear.

A great light overall, very bright and only slightly blue-er than daylight. A tad expensive, but well built.

This light is excellent so far. The dimming function is fairly granular, light output is even, and the adjustable arm is stable.

My only wish is that it would be nice to specify color temperature. This light appears to be in the 5-6k range.

This is a really cool lamp and easy to work with. It gives off a really clear and bright light; depending on which setting you like to your choosing. If you're an avid drawer or artist (like myself), this is perfect for you!
Now, the reason why I said in the title, "Don't Do What I Did Though", is because I actually wanted this lamp's light coming down at an angle from the side of my desk. But my desk didn't have any room for another lamp. Especially, since the lamp is only designed to maneuver vertically. So, I drilled a hole on the side of my desk and stuck the long screw (the lamp comes with) through the drilled hole. And it worked out pretty well for the most part. The only thing keeping the lamp from falling is my DVD shelf. It's very dangerous I know, but it's been a whole month since then and this lamp has been able to hold its own.
