I do a lot of carpentry for local community theaters and I find that gloves are a necessity. But, I always struggle with wanting tactile sensation of the wood and tools I'm working with and protecting my hands from slivers and other hazards in the shop.
Ultimately after trying a variety of gloves I settled on framing gloves. These give me the best of both worlds in that I have the upper part of my thumb, pointer, and middle fingers exposed so that I can have that tactile sensation, but the lower half of those fingers and my pinky and ring finger are fully covered. So when I'm grabbing wood to move it about all my primary gripping surfaces are protected by the glove, and I don't have to take my gloves off to do work.
I've tried three different brands of framing gloves now. One from Home Depot's in-house brand which was good, but the local stores here stopped carrying the framing glove in that brand. DeWalt's framing glove at first seemed to be a good match for my needs until I found that the light weight leather between my thumb and pointer finger developed very big holes on both gloves. And, now these.
I have to say that I'm very pleased with these gloves so far. They feel very durable and do not seem to have the same weakness to them that the DeWalt gloves did. I've already put them through a bit of abuse in the shop and they've admirably protected my hands from slivers and screws alike. When my current set wears out I will definitely be coming back to buy another pair of these and have no qualms recommending them to others.
Bought these for a combination of working on vehicles and shooting. They will definitely serve their purpose. Seem relatively durable and fit well. Comfort isn't horrible. The only complaint is that the stitching in both ring finger tips is somewhat annoying since the stitching is directly over the fingertip.
I am super pleased with these gloves for framing. They're comfortable, protect well and the exposed fingers mean you don't lose your dexterity. The only thing I wish they had was an absorbent terry section on the back of the thumb for wiping off sweat. Other than that, they're great. Have framed two houses so far on one pair and just bought a second pair as a spare
I've been using these green "framer" gloves my mom got me for the past few years and finally needed a replacement after I wore through the 20 pair she gave me. These are pretty comfy, I got a medium- they fit me great, I have slender hands. They have a little padding on the palm but not too much.
