Mechanix Wear - Material4X Original Gloves (Medium, Brown/Black)

There are absolutely the most functional, longest lasting gloves I have ever purchased. I do a lot of work in attics and crawlspaces, so keeping my hands out of the nasty stuff in those places is very important to me. This also has a tendency to wear very hard on gloves.

What I like:
4X material is really longer lasting than leather. 4x as long? Maybe, maybe not, but definitely the longest lasting gloves I've found. Every other pair of gloves that is readily available is either super bulky and not usable or only lasts me 1-2 weeks. These last me 1-2 months. Comfort and fit is superb, and the fact that there is a velcro strap on the wrist means they keep dirt out. Doesn't it suck when you're wearing gloves and you still get crud up into the fingers of your gloves, and you're like "Where the heck did that come from?" that doesn't happen with these.

What I don't like:
The aforementioned velcro strap is not as durable as the material on the palms of the gloves. Sometimes as they are getting old (1-2 months, I wear them every day) the strap stops staying closed and I just use some black electrical tape till the palms wear out.

I have to think at some point Mechanix Wear will stop offering these gloves. They should be named 10x as they have outlasted standard gloves by a high degree. I use these gloves for automotive and they do great against lubricants, coolants, solvents and corrosive cleaners. I use the same pair each week for 3 hours when I do yardwork. I have had to replace only one pair since I first discovered these and that's because I flat out ripped a hole in the finger tip. I bought a bunch more a few years back and am still on my first replacement pair. They are unbelievable gloves and I love them. Again, if you only sell one pair every couple years because they are so well made, can this line be profitable at this price point? I suspect they will get discontinued or the prices will continue to rise on this item.

I purchased these about four months ago, and so far, these gloves have held up extremely well. I do chainsaw work on the weekends and these protect my hands from the brush that I need to clear after limbing a tree. The seamless palm is a really great feature for that. Also, these function well for automotive/mechanic work as well. I bought them a little small, and after breaking them in, I am able to handle small screws with relative deftness and precision.

The only "problem" I have ever had with them is that I once accidentally rested the tip of my finger on a chainsaw exhaust, and the 4X material got very hot and burned my finger fairly well, and it seemed like the material stayed hotter a lot longer than a real leather glove would have, although I did have my hand on the hot exhaust for a good five seconds before the heat got through the glove and hit my finger.

Basically, avoid resting your hands on very hot surfaces for more than a second or two at a time and you will have a very nice and handy pair of gloves!

I work in construction and have been using these gloves for almost everyday for almost anything. Particularly anything that requires finger dexterity and a fair amount of protection for my palm. These offer zero protection on the knuckles. If I was going to deal with trash, or demo, or anything that would get your hands wet, for the entire day I wouldn't use these gloves. However, sometimes I have to work in the rain and the gloves would get soaked and the material still holds up. The material is surprisingly durable for how thin it is. When I first got the gloves I was expecting to rip it within 2 weeks.

But just today, I was doing some framing and I found that the stitches on the seams of the thumb and index finger coming apart. I wasn't surprised as how I use it everyday, wash it in the washing machine and put them in the dryer(which isn't recommended but I do it anyways) with my clothes everyday, for almost 3 months, the 4x material is still holding up and not showing the slightest hint of wear. I just the seams were stronger. I will get a pair of these sometime in the near future. But more experimenting with different gloves for now.

By the way, get a size smaller. I use size Small for these gloves. It is equivalent to Medium for other brands that I have used like Milwaukee, Maxiflex, CLC, Home Depot's Firm Grip.

First Pair, owned for just over a few months. 5+ Stars
Excellent gloves, fit, dexterity, and material. It is almost a synthetic suede. I ordered a size smaller and they fit very nicely. No blister spots, or comfort issues.
High quality product. I've put it through the tests, ripping up a deck, carpentry around the house, digging with a shovels, in Texas Heat and Humidity, they perform well.
I will be buying more pairs, but i don't see them wearing out soon, much better than your typical Home Depot gloves.
Great Product, very happy.
I'll post once they wear out.

Description

The glove that gave us our name in motorsports returns with Material4X durability. Material4X synthetic leather redefines durability with higher abrasion resistance and greater tear resistance than standard synthetic gloves. Material4X is completely machine washable, making this glove as practical as it is popular. With the same fit and feel of our Original glove, Material4X proves that a good thing can just keep getting better.

For me these are just a bit better than ok but not great. I'll break it down for what they're good for and what they're not for me.

These gloves have great "feel" fit nearly perfectly and are reasonably cool while wearing. They do however transfer heat quickly and strangely enough are a bit slippery on wood handled tools and have very little puncture resistance.

If you're working on your mower, changing the oil, taking out garbage, picking up sticks in the yard and most medium to light duty things that might require feel these gloves are awesome.

If however you are ripping out brush, splitting and stacking wood, running a chainsaw or using a hammer or shovel maybe not so much. "Prickly" brush goes right through them as do splintered ends of split wood. They will transfer all the vibration from a running tool like a chainsaw and I'll say it again they are far more slippery than leather.

They have their uses but considering the price I probably won't re-purchase these.

I'm a big fan of Mechanix gloves. I bought these at the onset of a flower bed project where I was going to be placing limestone blocks. So far I've installed about 3500# of rock (yeah, it's a project) and these gloves have held up well. One finger has developed a very small hole in the tip, but it isn't a problem. I have another 3000# to go and my guess is that these gloves will survive this project and still have some life left in them. I have washed them by hand, had them completely soaked/covered in mud, and they are holding up really well.

Good gloves aren't disposable, but they do have a lifespan. Be realistic and I think you'll be really happy with these gloves. Sizing seems to be spot-on...I always buy large gloves and these in a size L are perfect.

I bought these a buddy of mine has them, and I ended up using them one day during training. I liked them so much, I bought a pair. Actually, I bought two, because the XL were too long in the fingers for my hands. The large I replaced them with fit perfectly. They guy who took these XLs loves them also. We use them mostly in training, and live fire drills. I like the dexterity they give me for flipping safeties, trigger control, reloads, etc. After 20 years, these are my favorite gloves.

These gloves were purchased as a gift for my father. Based on other ratings, they seemed like a good buy. I ordered them in Medium completely forgetting my father has large hands. When the gloves came, my husband tried them on and liked them so much, he asked that I order him a pair too. He was impressed by the fit and quality right away. He said they reminded him of his favorite pair he had years ago that he wore until they fell apart. I ended up giving him the Mediums and ordering a pair of Large for my Dad. In fact, my husband likes them so much, he asked I buy another pair! So in total, I purchased three pairs and everyone is super happy!

These gloves have far outlasted most other gloves that I have used, so far 3 months of continuous use in a steel tubing warehouse have resulted in 0 holes and only minor abrasion wear. They have been constantly used to handle cardboard, open ends of steel tube both deburred and freshly cut with burrs, and wood. The only failures so far have been the tags on the outer side have come off, which came off cleanly due to being attached with separate stitching and do not affect the main threads, the other failure being the rubber strap on the backside below the logo tore at the stitching opening a gap between the rubber and the rear fabric which a new stitch fixed. Overall amazingly comfortable and durable.
