Superior Calfskin Leather Extreme Cold Weather Gloves Mitt with Removable Liner and Fleece Cheek Warmer, Work, 17

I don't give five star ratings easily. And to be truthful there are some problems with these mittens. First and foremost, they could not be ordered by size. I received a large. Since I wear mediums, they were too big. So big that I think they may actually run a little large. Be warned. Second, those "fleece" face warmers on the back seem pretty much useless for anything other than wiping up snot drips.

So why a five star review? Well, they did the one thing that I wanted them to do far better than I hoped. My hands get cold very easily, so I wanted something that would be warm. Mittens, You have one job.

Mission accomplished. These are by far the warmest mittens or gloves that I have ever had. I wore them yesterday in five degree weather and last night below zero. And my hands were not just warm, they developed a very light sweat. The size issue sucks, but I can live with it if I can stay outside for a couple of hours and not worry about frostbite or even discomfort. And at the price, well, I was blown away.

So, I guess for you there may be another drawback. If your hands stay warm pretty well, these mittens may be too warm.

I was looking for a winter mitt that had removable liners and that would be warm down to -40*F. These have answered the call.
I will say that these really are reserved for cold, cold weather. If you wear them in the 20's your hands will sweat with any sort of physical exercise.
I brought these way up north in MN during a cold spell with close to -30* F readings at night as well as a fortuitous wind howling through our lakeside camp. It hurt to have my hands outside of the mitts for more than 30 seconds. The mitts didn't let any cold in what so ever. They were the warmest part of my body that evening (unless I took the mitts off of course). In the morning there was a -29*F windchill reading and my hands are toasty (see pics)
They don't have a great deal of dexterity but they get the job done.
The gauntlet cuff that a number of reviewers have complained about can be mitigated by flipping the shells inside out and using a stitch puller to remove the zig zag elastic strip that is sewn into the wrist area (see pic). I did this and it has stopped my jacket sleeve from bunching up. It also allows more breathability with the mitt which in turn reduces moisture build up. The cinch strap on the cuff is not particularly well crafted and it doesn't pull as well as some other higher end model mitts, but it works.
The white faux wool patch on the top of the glove is removable. I actually like it because it makes a good nose wipe (see pic)
The mitts are made in China and the quality of crafting is decent. It's not spectacular.
The leather palms are a plus in my book since most human made materials start to disintegrate after a few years of constant use.

I recommend these mitts for anyone who has been let down by other would be cold weather mitts but doesn't want to spend a lot of money for an expensive name brand or Scandinavian import.

I have been looking for some COLD weather gloves for a long time. Down south, in Louisiana, nobody really stocks COLD weather gloves, they stock "cool" weather gloves. Well, maybe we don't get and stay down in the freezing range very often, but for someone who would like to ride (comfortably) every day, I want something WARM over my fingers, without the need to "go electric" or spend a ton of money. So when I saw the words "extreme cold", I figured I'd take a chance. Turned out it was a REALLY good choice. The price is extremely reasonable, but better than that, they keep me warm in multi-hour rides at interstate speeds. My commute to work is in the 1-1/2 to 2 hour (one way) range and in the 30-40 degree (F) range, these mittens do a very good job.

The only downside I see is their sizing. I bought a LARGE based on what I normally buy in gloves, and I probably should have gotten a MEDIUM. They seem to run big, and so you aren't surprised by the gauntlet, it goes almost up to my elbow. (5'10" - 185lbs). But regardless, they keep me warm, they're pretty well-made for being made in China (like everything else...), and for the price you just can't go wrong.

The only mitts I've ever had that kept my hands warm below 10F. While riding a bike in -15F, my hands were still toasty after an hour. I'm very cheap, most of my cold weather gear wool and military surplus, and the only thing more expensive than these mitts were a pair of rated -40F boots. And the price was well worth it. My hands get cold very easy due to past exposure, so it is hard to find gear that works. These do.

the mittens look good still waiting for cold weather to come in. the one problem that I have with them was the size. when ordering the mittens you could not pick a size so I took a shot in the dark. when they came in they where a large I needed an XL. they fit but wish they were bigger to fit a liner. for any one else looking to buy a pair they are a standard large no bigger.

Description

Superior Snow series deluxe winter mitt. They were designed with cold Canadian arctic winters in mind, and the result is a multi-layered, high-tech glove in a beautiful, deluxe, black calfskin leather package. The outer glove has a sidewall construction, which allows ample room for the removable liner and is elasticized at the wrist for a snug fit. All seams are fully welted for durability, and the extra-wide, double-layer nylon gauntlet cuff is 6.5-inches, while the overall mitt length is 17-inches. They fit easily over snowmobile suits and parkas, with straps for tightening and adjusting. A removable BOA pile wiper/cheek-warmer completes the exterior. The big story, however, is in the removable liner. Simply, it is the best we have ever designed, consisting of four separate layers of material that provide incomparable warmth. The two layers in the middle are cut from a Thinsulate fabric that is 400 grams of Thinsulate per square meter. These are then sandwiched by a foam-to-fleece laminate, while the whole liner is easily removed using velcro, allowing for easy drying. We truly believe it is the world's warmest glove.

After some research I bought these for dealing with the polar vortex -40 actual temp. These work so well my hands were in danger of sweating while I cleared snow.
The pads on the back are more or less useless as the snow quickly packs into them but I didn't plan to use them anyway.
Some reviews mention they won't fit over parka sleeves but I didn't have that problem at all and my larger-than-average hands fit nicely without being too snug.

All in all these gloves have more than proved their worth

After freezing my hands in what was supposed to be LL Beans best winter mittens for the last time, I broke down and bought these Superior snow calfskin leather extreme cold gloves. I find that the gauntlet -I think that is what the area before the glove part is called-needs to be pulled hard against my parka but in the extreme cold here in central NY they have been a godsend. My fingers actually were steaming when I pulled my hands out from the gloves after a particularly challenging snowblowing episode. I would heartily recommend these gloves for cold weather use.

I wear medium sized gloves. This looks like they will fit people with small to medium sized hands and not large as specified on the package. They are gauntlet styled and reach very far up my arms. The few minutes I had the gloves on to see if they fit, my hands were burning up. The real test will come when winter arrives in Nome, Alaska. I hope they live up to the -60 degree weather.

9 degree high today and wore these in high winds and blowing snow. Absolutely fantastic. Have some techy microfiber gloves for very cold temps I use for working out in the snow and frigid cold, for instance, snowblowing. Well, the last week my fingers have gotten cold and I'd had it, so I raised the bar some and got these. OMG, warmest and best gloves I've ever had. Fit great. They only come in large.

Got the mittens for my husband. He shovels in them and finds them very comfortable and warm.. Actually said his hands were hot. They are big with the very large cuffs.I got him a large which he usually wears and they fit fine. He thinks the little white attachments are goofy. One cannot wipe your face with them when they are covered with snow. But he likes them and he can be pretty picky
