I replaced an American Standard faucet that lasted 2 years and was then warranty replaced, 3 times. I grew tired of the labor of replacing it. I bought this one because it requires very little clearance behind (1.5" from center of hole) AND the handle does not move backwards at all - a necessity in my situation because of a window shelf behind the faucet. The 9159 is another faucet that meets this criteria, but we felt like the lines of it would be more difficult to keep clean. Installation was simple and straightforward. A couple of differences from our old faucet are taking some time for us to adjust to. One is the sprayer vs. normal aerated flow is a switch - on or off. On our old one, when you shut off the water on spray, it switched automatically back to aerated flow. This one will stay on spray. It wouldn't be an issue at all except that the pressure of the sprayer is much greater on this one than our old one. If you hold a dirty plate 6 inches below the faucet and turn it on, you may well end up with food on you or all around the sink if the last person left it on spray. I'm not dinging it for that since that feature on our old faucet was one of the first things to quit working. My major criteria for satisfaction with the faucet will come from it lasting more than 2 years, so ... time will tell. I'm optimistic though - we chose Delta because we've remodeled 3 bathrooms and put Delta in all 3 and everything works beautifully just as when we put them in.
This faucet is a bit too big, but overall a fine one and quality made with mostly metal parts vs. plastic. (use the shipping weight as a guide...the cheapies are 2-3 lbs lighter in their description with all that plastic). The real issue is that the arc comes way out over the sink. Most countertops are 24" deep and sinks have 4" counter at rear and 3" at front, leaving 17" for most kitchen sink dimensions (I'm an architect).
Mounted in the center of the rear 4" deck, the arc projects about 10" over the sink, putting it at 7" from the front. This is just too close and should be back by 3" for the most efficient and comfortable use. I almost wished I'd mounted at the side of my single bowl sink. But too late for that.
That said, everything else about the faucet is excellent. The temperature mixer lever pivots forward only which is great so it doesn't hit the back-splash (if you wanted to have it mounted further back). The pull out spray is good. The spray function (vs. stream) is really strong and I don't use it as much as it splashes way more than the stream.
Overall, it is a good product. It was made in USA when I purchased it in Dec. 2016.
It's hard to find a good brand kitchen faucet with a handle that doesn't move backwards. The handle for this Delta Essa Faucet stops exactly as shown in the photo, parallel to the faucet. To turn it on/off, you move the handle out/in and to adjust for heat, move forward. Because we have a bar-type countertop/backsplash directly behind the kitchen sink, there is less than two inches of clearance from the counter wall to the faucet. Most faucets I looked at in retail stores did not have this particular feature so I was quite happy when I found the Essa.
The package contains a faucet with attached supply lines, optional escutcheon, and a few other necessary parts. It also includes a tightening tool if the sprayer tube gets loose. I hired a local plumber to install the faucet and he said Delta is a good brand because any faulty parts can be replaced within two weeks since they have manufacturing facilities in the US (as opposed to a brand like Grohe and Hansgrohe, which have parts that may take up to two months to replace due to foreign-based facilities). I believe it took him around a half hour to install the faucet.
I've only been using this faucet for about a week now and so far, it's working well. The handle doesn't leak and moves smoothly, the sprayer works well with its flexible tube (as opposed to the rigid ones) and reaches areas easily, and the faucet swivels left and right very nicely. The flow of water is just right whether or not the sprayer is used.
For anyone in California, this faucet meets the requirements of the Water Conservation Certificate.
In 2008, we replaced a super cheap, builder-installed faucet when we were getting ready to sell our house. I bought the Delta Leland and loved it for the short amount of time I had it before we moved. The faucet in the new house was a nice enough Moen pull-out faucet, but I didn't like it nearly as much as the pull-down Delta faucet. Fast forward 8 years...the Moen faucet started leaking so I decided it was time to replace it with a pull-down model. I researched Moen, Koehler, & Delta. I decided to go with the Delta Essa which is very similar to the Leland. I liked that the handle doesn't move backwards since we had minimal space behind the faucet. It works great and the price from Amazon was so much lower than the price at one of the "big box" stores! It was actually less than the price I paid for the Leland 8 years ago! I would highly recommend.
If you are looking for a snazzy looking pull down faucet for your sink, look no further. I'd been researching these for some time, and I settled on Delta for two reasons: One - The simplistic, elegant look of the faucet. Two - It has a magnetic return for the pull down hose, eliminating the need for weights on the hoses. In addition, I paid about $70 less for it on Amazon than in a local plumbing store. The plumber who installed it asked me the price and he couldn't believe it. Delta is one of the few, if any others, who use the magnetic return on the hose instead of weights. This means that the hose always finds its way back to the faucet without lagging in the future, and the need for adjusting the weights. It goes back to the faucet each and every time, with authority. One thing to point out, the water stream is smaller than other faucets I have used in the past, but it comes out powerfully as it does in spray mode. The other thing is that you have to pull out the handle to the right / left to use the water, instead of the usual up / down method that most use. Very happy with this faucet. The magnet works tremendously well to keep the spray head in when you turn the water off, and I have no complaints about the faucet at all. Be sure to measure, the faucet is quite tall and comes out very far- it would not work for a small sink. I love the fact that it turns 360 degrees, great for filling up pots. And the pull down sprayer reaches down far enough to clean every inch of my sink.
This unit replaced a very expensive German faucet that, as our plumber had predicted, started leaking from multiple points after only three years. The plumber advised that, whenever the leakage started, I should replace the pricey unit with good, old Delta. So I did. I really like everything about this faucet - - except for one thing. As others have commented, the retaining nut that holds the base against the countertop comes loose, so that the entire fixture rotates. The fix is to get under the sink and tighten the nut with the provided tool. This works fine for awhile. A great tip posted here earlier is that, when the installation is performed, the tightening tool should be left on the sprayer hose. This way, you do not have to disconnect the hose in order to slide the wrench up and into place. I'm thinking that the real fix for this problem is to use a permanent thread locking compound during installation. I may do this next time the nut comes loose. But overall, I am very happy with this Delta product and would buy it again.
I have had this faucet installed in the kitchen for about a month now and I have to say that I love it! The pressure is amazing almost too much when in the spraying mode. I chose a SUPER deep sink and the length of the cord is phenomenal I can bring it all the way down and then some. The brushed nickel was a great choice too, water spots are not a problem, I don't feel like I need to constantly wipe it down. The installation went well too from what my contractor says it was a breeze. I feel like the price is pretty comparable as well.
I am not a plumber, but am fairly handy. I found this very easy to install. It's important to flush the lines per the instructions before you attach the supply line to the line that feeds the spray head. If you don't, you can block the spray head with bits of debris that are commonly loosened whenever you change plumbing fixtures.
We are very happy with faucet. It's easier to fill large pots with water due to the height of the outlet. The magnetic collar makes it easy to get the sprayhead to fit back into the gooseneck of the faucet. This is much easier to put back in place than my old pull-out Delta faucet.
I read that some people didn't like the excessive spray power of the faucet, and I agree that when the tap is fully opened, it really jets out the water. But once you get used to it, it's easy to control the spray power by reducing the water flow with the tap handle. And, when you want a strong spray, this faucet really delivers!
This has been great so far. We bought a house and it was a fixer. The faucet that was in the sink was old, cracked, leaking, and super gross. We got this and tried to self-install but couldn't get the old one out for several reasons. So we hired a plumber to do a lot of work in the house and added installation of the faucet to his list. So I can't speak to the ease of installation - I wasn't even home when it was put in, but it works great. I did read through the instructions when I thought we were going to do the job ourselves and they seemed pretty straightforward.
The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the faucet gets lots of marks on it from water splashing and I don't know if that's due to my maybe having hard water, or just the finish of the faucet, but I do not have the time or inclination to polish my faucet on the daily so it's not an ideal look. And, second, as others mentioned, on the shower-type function the water splashes really hard into the sink, and ours is pretty deep, and can splash back and make a mess. So we don't use that setting all that often.
Other than that, and really, those are minor things, it's a great faucet and I would recommend it. It's been working great since we put it in.
