Craftsman & Ridgid Replacement Filter by

Craftsman & Ridgid Replacement Filter by Kopach

After over 20 years, the filter on our 16 gallon wet/dry vac was definately due for a change. After looking up this model filter I was happy to find it here on Amazon for half of the price Craftsman was asking. The product is just as advertised, and I may have to buy some more to have on hand later.

My vacuum is a 6-gallon Husky (Home Depot house brand) that uses the VF4000-series Rigid filters.
I decided to give this Kopach filter a try.
In the first picture you see how the vacuum's filter end cap fit the original filter.
The second picture shows the new Kopach filter in place with the end cap in the, "Normal," position. As you can see, the Kopach filter is shorter than the stock filter, and doesn't seal this way.
In the third picture, I reversed the end cap, and compressed the end of the new filter slightly so that it fit inside the reversed end cap. It fits nicely this way, and works just fine.
The Kopach filter costs about 20% less than the VF4000 filter. Hopefully it'll last just as well.

Fits perfectly on my Craftsman 16 gallon Vac without any modification. I used the old plate and plastic nut that came with it to secure it on. I didn't realize there were so many of these damn things. I had a heck of a time trying to figure out the model number. If you have a Craftsman and are looking for the model number it is on a small silver sticker under the handle and starts with "113." The Sears website said I needed filter 17816. This is a good replacement and much cheaper than Sears.

Have an old Craftsman 16 gal wet/dry vac model 113.179150 with filter cap and teardrop thumbscrew. Manual print date is 1986. Filter number listed in operator manual is 17816. Sear’s current replacement filter 17816 will not fit my vac even though the filter box lists my vac’s model number. Thanks to Kopach Filter Company and Amazon, this filter is a replacement for the old Craftsman model vacs that are made in the 1986 to 1988 era. This filter is better constructed than the last flimsey paper filter I bought a couple years ago from Sears. Hope this helps others finding a filter.

this is the adapter I had to purchase after throwing away my old nut and plate. I purchased a "universal" filter from Sears which turned out to not work. The knob that threaded to the stud on my vac actually was to large. The filter and knob started falling off the stud into the bottom of the shop vac. Tried several things to "tighten" up the knob to no avail. This works!

This filter will fit most Craftsman brand vacuums (1988 to present brand, 5 gallon and bigger sizes) and some Ridgid vacuums, but please be aware of the following specifications so you can make sure you have the parts you need: This filter will fit your Craftsman red-stripe filter (Part #9-17816) without any adapter parts. You can use our filter on a Craftsman vacuum if your current filter uses a filter cap and wingnut to secure the filter onto the filter cage. (If you need to replace the cap and wingnut, we also sell those!) Note that if your current filter attaches using rubber across one side that snaps over a ball, then our filter can work, but you will also need to order our Filter Adapter Kit. This filter will also fit some Ridgid brand vacuums. This filter will replace your Ridgid vacuum Part # VF4000 filter (which is open on both sides). If your current Ridgid filter has rubber across one side that snaps over a ball to secure it onto the vacuum, then our filter will NOT fit your vacuum. I have an older version of the Sears Craftsman 5HP Wet/Dry Vac (model 113.177001), this particular filter fits perfectly as if it's the original Sears filter that came with the vac where I can still use the round filter end-cap and thumb screw to secure the filter.
P.S. Not Even with the Sears 9-17816 (with red strip) filter, where I had to modify to fit.

I have been looking for replacement filter for my 4 hp wet&dry vacuum cleaner, prescribing replacement filter by Sears
#17816. Either it is not carried or not available for months, by Sears who sold the item. Tried this after market filter after many 5 star reviews from customers. IT IS A TIGHT AND PERFECT FIT ON THIS OLD MACHINE, DOES NOT RELEASE PARTICLES ON THE BLOW SIDE LIKE MANY AFTER MARKET FILTERS DO. This manufacturer has done a very good replacement product.

I just installed this on my Craftsman 16 gallon, 5 1/5 hp shop vac and it fit perfectly. The inside diameter was exactly the same dimension as the filter cage and the length was exactly right. The last filter I bought was a bit too long and a bit wider than the filter cage. It functioned but wasn’t quite right. This filter fit like it was made eaxactly for my machine! If I have any issues with performance or durability, I’ll update my review but, my expectations are that this will be a very high quality filter

This fit my older model Craftsman perfectly! It was such a drama trying to find a filter that did not need alterations I ordered a couple more. I had considered replacing my vac until I noticed many of the new ones recommend using bags. Really? Home vacs are going bagless and shop vacs are regressing? That makes as much sense as Dyson going cordless. I hate messing with batteries and bags.

Prefect for me Craftsman wet/dry Vac. Model #113.170170. Sears doesn't make this style of filter any more and replaced the filter with another one that I have heard doesn't work so great. So I'm so glad I found this one. It is a very high quality filter and fit perfectly. I did have to use my old filter cap and nut like always shown in the pictures. Will buy again
