I'd tried virtually every sort of potholder, oven mitt, etc. but no matter what I tried I'd always ended up with random singes on the tops of my hands from oven racks, burnt thumbs from the hole to supposedly hang up my bulky silicone potholders and as I've gotten older and cook with a lot of heavy cookware I've worried about having a good grip on these pots when I'm trying to lift them in and out of the oven or on and off the stove. So I was looking for something that would let me use my hands normally, be flexible and provide protection.

These gloves are perfect. I just love them...they slip on easily (no fumbling), cover your hands completely (no more burning the tops of my hands when reaching between oven racks), and they are really flexible so I can get a good grip when lifting heavy casserole, roasting pans and dutch ovens out of the oven or turning breads, pizza, muffins, cookies, etc. half way through baking to ensure even cooking, pull oven racks in and out, and flipping kebab skewers on the grill easily. I love that unlike bulky mitts or stiff silicone potholders you get an independent all finger dexterous grip...like having burn-proof hands and they are truly flame resistant unlike those bulky old mitts and potholders.

Each glove is sold separately (one to a package) since at my age strength was an issue and I have two hands I bought two of these great gloves (sort of pricy but definitely worth it). No worries about left or right as the glove works on either hand.

There is one caveat while they can virtually give you protection against any item heated up to 450 degrees and flame flare-ups the gloves must be kept DRY...no plunging them into boiling cauldrons as hot liquids would penetrate the mesh fiber of the gloves so I'll repeat the manufacturer's warning "Do not use wet as water would transmit heat to the inside of the glove".

I am SO glad I got this and wish I had gotten one years earlier.

After experiencing the tactile feel I get with these gloves, I'll NEVER use my old thick oven mitts again. I took a hot broiling pan out of the oven and with these gloves, since I could actually feel the shape of the pan, I didn't get a sense of losing control and almost dropping it. I could feel the shape, but I couldn't feel the heat. I was actually amazed at how well these worked, and I'm too embarrassed to tell how many times I lifted and removed the pan and then put it back in the broiler just so I could test the glove again.

The final testament to how great this glove is is how much my husband, Mr. "I don't like anything new," liked it. Despite his initial reluctance to try it, after he went towards the oven to take out a cake pan and I forced the glove into his hands, he kind of HAD to use it. As he carried the pan to the counter, he actually smiled!

Though I'm a female, I have what Seinfeld calls "man hands" and the size large fits me like, well, a glove. In addition, because of the give in the glove, these fit my husband, who has large male hands, perfectly as well. I also have sensitive hands and I thought this glove would be itchy, but it wasn't; it's as comfortable as any cotton glove.

I love this glove! So much so that I'm going to buy two more; one so we can use the gloves on both hands and another to use when I use my curling iron. I highly recommend these.

12/9/14 UPDATE
I bought two more of these so we'd have a pair in the kitchen and I could keep one in the bathroom to use with my curling iron. My husband came into my home office this morning wearing both the gloves and holding a hot cup of coffee -- not by the handle, but by the cup. He was gleaming and said, "I told you a long time ago we should have gotten these gloves, but you wouldn't listen," which was his way of saying, You done good, girl.

this glove is a replacement glove for the kevlar glove I currently use. I prefer kevlar gloves to the silicone rubber gloves some of my in-laws use as they have much greater dexterity. My current glove made by another manufacturer is a large and fit well at first but stretched out and became loose and clumsy after use and a couple washings so I purchased a medium from G&F. The medium is a bit snug now but not so much I can't use it and I believe that with use it too will stretch a bit and become a better fit. My current gloves have little silicone rubber nubs incorporated onto the palms and fingers of the glove that the G&F did not include. I guess the nubs were for a "non-slip" grip but I don't believe they were all that important as the G&F glove works the same way without them.

While this would generally fall under the category of "don't try this at home" ;) I have been using the G & F heat resistant glove when I work with hot glass. The heat shield is good enough that I have been able to hold hot (lamp-worked) glass pieces for attachment to larger work! I definitely need to add this to my Amazon how-to guide (set up a glass studio in Amazon's kitchen store).

Having used it thus, I purchased another for my daughter who is training as a chef, and now need to purchase another one for when I am working on larger pieces, and maybe even get a set for my husband to use at the barbeque.

I am frankly amazed that these can be used to hold hot glass (over 900 degrees farenheit) and so have no issue with recommending them to the home or commercial chef, or barbeque enthusiast... or other hot glass artists.

These give me latitude to do things I could not do before, and so much more control!
Disclaimer: If you have not melted glass before, best to get instruction from someone knowledgeable before trying this at home ;) but if you do, consider adding a pair of these to your tool kit.

Yes I love them, absolutely a 5 star item which goes way beyond your average oven mitt!

My wife and I use this item almost every day. She came into the marriage with a variety of cast iron pans with metal handles and using towels to drain grease, drain water, lift or even to grip the handles when stirring can be hazardous. She loves to bake, and we have a toaster oven with trays that can stick a little, so the glove makes it easy for us on any hot item or surface. When we get around to it, we'll order a second one. And, if this one gets ruined, burned, or worn out, we'll definitely replace it.

The packaging clearly stated that the glove can burn, or be scorched, and was careful to spell out the conditions in which the glove's integrity is at risk. That said, you'd either have to pass out with your hand in glove on an open flame, cook it in the oven at the heating element, or wipe your bum with it in order to truly ruin it or destroy it. It is woven, and knitted in texture, so if you spill Kool-Aid on it it'll get stained; and we have scorched one of the finger tips, but well within the limits of the guidelines. I forget at the moment whether or not you can machine wash it, but I believe it has some type of flame retardant which can be compromised if you do.

Even though its not the As Seen On TV Ove-Glove, it might as well be. Don't get hung up on brand names. This glove is a champ for anyone who wants to play it safe in their kitchen at home. Purchase a pair or more if you can swing it.

Description

This flame resistant oven glove(Commercial Grade) is flexible, provides all fingers grip, can withstand extreme heat and even an occasional flame. Perfect for indoor/outdoor use, for the oven, grill, stovetop, barbecue. Made of Aramid on the exterior and a double knit cotton on the interior, this mitt fits like a glove. Do not use wet as water would transmit heat to the inside of the glove. Aramid is a man made textile with amazing heat protection characteristics. It is used by race car drivers, astronauts, fire fighters as well as jet fighter pilots whose survival depends not only on skills, but also proper equipment. Although aramid could burn when a flame is held up to it, the glove will stop burning as soon as the heat source is removed, which illustrate its flame resistant property. Aramid arranged in a thick woven structure is also a poor conductor of heat, which makes it the perfect oven glove material. Machine washable, dry flat, do not bleach.

Pros:
• Actually fits like a glove (no pun intended), so you maintain full motion in your hand and can manipulate pots, pans, and larger cooking utensils while wearing it.
• Very heat resistant, only in one circumstance have I ever felt the heat from the pan (see cons).
• So much easier to use than a traditional mitt, and stores away much more compactly.

Cons:
• Not really a con, but there are limits to the heat protection it can provide. The one limit I have noticed is when using a screaming hot cast iron pan. Once the pan gets very hot you can’t pick it up for more than a few seconds with this glove (e.g. when putting it in the oven after searing meat). In those circumstances I just place a traditional mitt over the glove and the little bit of extra protection is all you need.

I cannot tell you how tire I am of cheaply made good from abroad. My last pair of cheaply made oven mitts last all of 6 months before the first rip appeared. How did I discover it you ask? By being burned as I removed a cookie sheet from the oven!!

Ever since then I have been looking a for a quality set of oven mitts and can upon the Flame Resistant Oven Glove Commercial Grade by G&F. At first I was skeptical, but the reviews were glowing so I decided to give these glove-type oven (mitts) a try. I'm glad I did; these gloves are great. The quintessential test: removing a broiler pan from the oven after broiling salmon for 15 minutes. Verdict: didn't feel any heat as I removed the pan from the oven! I am in love! I highly recommend these gloves; they are well worth the $9.00 a piece I paid. No more cheaply made oven (mittens) gloves for this baker.

This is a a great product for handling hot items from the oven or grill.

Extra large latex or nitrile gloves slide over these easily when handling hot food. I use these when shredding pork from my smoker with nitrile gloves to keep them clean.

I also own a similar product, but longer version with silicone grip on the fingers. G & F (2 Gloves Value Pack) Exclusive Extra Long Cuff Oven Gloves-made of Dupont Nomex & Kevlar-withstands Heat up to 480 Degrees Fahrenheit Both have stood up to a lot of grilling and smoking. Throw them in the wash if they get dirty. You can put them in the dryer, but I'd recommend line dry to avoid shrinkage.

I would have given this a five if sold as a pair like the version with longer cuff.

I had only purchased one glove so that I could see if I liked it enough to have two of them. The glove is heat resistant as advertised, and has been great to use with my coal stove. I've actually picked up hot coals with the glove on. I worried that it would burn through, since the coal is hotter than what the glove is supposed to handle. There was a slight burning smell, but I have not yet had anything burn through. My only wish is that the glove wasn't so light in color, because it gets dirty very quickly with all the coal ash. But, as I said in my subject line, I like it enough to be buying a second one!

When I ordered there were 3 sizes available: Medium Large and XL. I ordered the smallest, a medium. Now, I kind of have man-hands, but this glove was like wrapping my fingers in a king size comforter. Very unwieldy if you need to use it for anything requiring nimble fingers.

BUT, in the end, it serves its purpose. I use it as a heat resistant glove for my clipless curling iron. It's actually nice to have some slack at the end of the fingers, because it adds another couple layers between my skin and the hot iron.

So minus one star for such deceptive sizing, but it works exactly how I wanted it to work, so still 4* overall.
