So Im tall and a bit clumsy (like a spider on roller skates) but anyhow -
I have been doing a ton of tree trimming this fall and I goofed one day and didn't put on safety glasses because they fall off and fog up so much. So long story short - I put my eye out / Nothing perm just 3 weeks of a bandage and a minor scar removal surgery.
So here I go again but this time taking precautions! I found this and thought Ill give it a try - HOLLY SMOKE! I love it! I would have thought it was going to be heavy -hot and cumbersome but not at all - Very comfortable to wear! The ear protectors are super soft and really keep the helmet on my head and block out nearly all noise, I have huge ears so soft is a big concern. I wear little head phones under them connected to my MP3 player I just taped to the top inside of helmet. Works Great! The screen is so fine but yet I get plenty of breeze - doesn't block my view at all - and yesterday which triggered the review I was chainsawing away on limbs 10" above my head and the oil cap off chain saw came off, OIL EVERYWHERE. All over me head to toe - all over the screen AND NOT A DROP ON MY FACE! The screen protected my face against the falling oil.
I really like this setup. Others have complained about durability, but I don't abuse my gear. What I can say, is that I wore this continuously for 8 hours on two separate occasions over a sweat shirt hoodie. I replaced the screen mesh with a plastic shield that it comes with. I did not use additional eye protection underneath. The helmet and shield seal around the brim, limiting sawdust from above the head. I used a separately purchased respirator dust mask underneath as well. I use it for woodturning, chainsaw use and power carving. I will not do any of those 3 things without it.
We own 5 acres of forested property in upstate New York. For Christmas I got a chainsaw to help save money by cleaning up the trees myself. I'm a smart guy and read all of the instructions and they stress using safety gear.
I shopped around and this helmet was about half the price of a name brand helmet and seemed identical but without the logo.
When it arrived the box seemed small and my first thought was, "that's why it was so inexpensive - it's child-size!" No, the helmet is adult-sized and arrived packed tightly. The assembly instructions were lacking (only covering part of the assembly) but I got it all assembled by looking at the photos on the package. (There's the helmet and harness, the face shield, and the ear muffs that all need to be put together.)
I cut down my first two trees yesterday and the helmet performed better than I expected. The head harness inside uses a knob ratchet, which is quite convenient and was a luxury I didn't expect at this price point. The ear muffs blocked way more sound than my ear plugs and both them and the helmet are legitimately safety rated - again, not kids stuff.
All in all, I felt compelled to tell of my good fortune in finding this product at this price!
Solid performer, works as advertised and provides good head, ear and eye protection. Instructions are easy to follow and suitable for light duty, It includes two visors (mesh and clear plastic). Sound protection is good, but I would also suggest foam plugs in addition). This is not a professional helmet (inexpensive and definitely workable for casual home use). I have used far more expensive helmets which are more comfortable for full time 8 hour a day cutting, but this is a good value for the price.
I am really happy I made this purchase. I used to fell trees without protection, and weedwack without a face guard. That was stupid. Luckily, I didn't get hurt. The instructions could have been better for putting this together, but it wasn't hard to figure out. I like how easily adjustable the headband for fitting is. Also, it comes with a clear shield, but I have only used the screen. The hearing protection does the trick. I was foolish to ever work without this. I am really glad I made the purchase.

Description
TR Industrial Combination Safety Helmet, 5-in-1 Forestry Safety Helmet Hard Hat System with Accessories
I do serious tree work, often rope-climbing 60' - 80'. This helmet is an unbelievable value for $26!!! Mind you, this is not a $100+ helmet system, so don't expect one. It is an inexpensive, yet very serviceable version which includes a sturdy helmet with a good ratcheting headband that tightens across the lower-back of the skull; a pair of earmuffs that swivel up to the backside of the helmet when you don't need them protecting your hearing; and two face shields - a screen and a plexiglass shield, each of which swivel up, out of the way. The earmuffs and the face shields are easy to attach/detach and the helmet may be worn with or without earmuffs and/or face shield. A chin strap is not included and would make a nice addition but it is an easy matter to add an after-market or homemade chin strap. Watch the video:

This is essential safety equipment for using a pole saw or any other outdoor power equipment that throws chips and debris and has a decibel rating in the damaging range. Is it the sexiest safety system, not at all! If you wanna look cool while cutting stuff then go get a Stihl pro or husqvarna system. However, if you want to have head, ear, and face protection at a reasonable cost for a weekend warrior like me, then this is he way to go. It is ANSI type 1 class C approved head protection, 22dB noise reduction, dial adjustable 6 point suspension system, removeable sweat band, and comes with both a clear poly carb shield and a wire mesh shield for use with high speed cutting tools. The system fits over my 3M tinted safety glasses for an added layer of protection (Stihl and husqvarna both recommend using additional safety glasses under their system). The only drawback I see is that it may be difficult to obtain replacement parts. I don’t feel that reason alone justifies me purchasing a Stihl or other brand at a much higher cost. Perhaps if I used this more than an hour or two a week I may need to have something with readily available replacement parts, but I don’t see that being a problem. Others have commented on wanting to replace the sweat band, and not being able to find them easily. Solution: get a small amount of headliner material from an upholstery supplier, use your existing sweat band as a template, and cut out a replacement. It should work: I did that when I could not find a replacement sweat band for my bike helmet and it worked better than the originals.
Summary: if you need a pro quality everyday wear professional protection system look at the ones made by Stihl and Husqvarna, etc. However, if you are a weekend warrior like me pick this system up and go get your work done!
If you work as a tree person you're not going to be purchasing a product like this in that price range, but you already know that. If you're an average homeowner like me, with a chainsaw ... you just can't beat the value of this set. The hardhat will not prevent a 200 foot tree from cracking your head (did you look at the price?), but the ear protection and visor alone are worth it (did you look at the price?). As far as the comments about difficulty putting it together, just remove the two screws holding in on the ear muff mounts and don't fight the spring. Put it back together how it came apart, and the whole assembly process will take three minutes. If you are looking through the plastic visor and it looks blurry, take the protective film off of BOTH SIDES, it really is CLEAR AS GLASS. The clear visor may not last 10 years wading through brush, but DID YOU LOOK AT THE PRICE? IMO, the value and protection of this set cannot be beat.
A little too flimsy but....at this price point that's what you get and there is a great deal of functionality in it. I don't understand why the ear protection can't be rated at 32dB. I have cheap set of the same kind of ear protection from Harbor Freight ($3) that are.
If you read the 'science' that is behind the two rating systems concerned with dB damage to the ears, there is no way to get the ear protection provided here to work per their standards. They want you to reduce the noise of a chain saw [115dB] to 80dB. 115 - 26 is 89. Add 5dB back for real world considerations and you're at 94dB. How to get down that 14dB difference? Add in 'in the ear foam' plugs rated at 32dB and you're at 60dB. Problem solved! Yes? No. The same research says you can only subtract 5dB by adding a second source. If that's true you're at 89dB, 9dB above what is damaging for your ears.
An obvious point would be to start the calculation with the 32dB ear plugs. 115-32+5 = 88. Take off 5 for the 2nd source of ear protection and your'e still above the recommended 80dB. 88-5=83.
Now, being totally ignorant of this branch of physics, I may be misinterpreting things. If so, and anyone can tell me where I've gone wrong, I would be very grateful.
In the meantime, I'm very happy with this setup. And I've seen systems that are two to three times more expensive and they would have the same math problem with dB.
Great .... Great.... Great... ! I'm a 68 year old male and have a lot of good sized trees to bring down, cut up, and dispose of on my property. After upgrading to an Echo chainsaw (My old Homelight chainsaw completely died), the difference in chainsaw performance was phenomenal. With this revelation the thought got in my head, "John, maybe you should upgrade the protection for your head and face too." Before I bought the TR Industrial Forestry Helmet and... I just wore an old ball cap. You probably are thinking, "John, that was pretty dumb what with trees and branches unavoidably fallling down around a 68 year old man." Well, you're right, it was classically dumb. The TR Industrial Forestry Helmet and... took a little getting used as it is a strange object on my head, but I got used to it, and it has saved me a lot of scratches where I was walking through downed branches, and prevented several smaller flexible branches from whipping back toward my face as I forced them away in order to walk past them. I even use the Helmet/face protection now when I'm dragging limbs and branches to a burn pile, as there's always some whipping and sticking that happens. So I 5 star recommend the TR Industrial Forestry Safety Helmet and face guard .....
